Airshow in Manitoba??
Does anyone know why there isn't any airshows in Manitoba anymore? Is there some way we could spark interest to get an airshow to happen either in Winnipeg or Portage? I've noticed that there is several other provinces that have a few airshows throughout the year and just think some of us Manitobans should do something about this.
I remember a few years back we'd see some amazing static displays and two days of non stop action in the skies over head, ranging from Piper cubs to Tutors to Hornets to F-117 Night Hawks. I think it would be amazing to get something like that going again, even if it weren't as big, we could start somewhere.
Any thoughts??

2008. Huge recession - no longer the money floating around in the economy that there used to be. Americans don't/won't/can't fly their impressive tin around, Canadians don't really have much, so that leaves the privateers..
Also, I think that the magic has gone out of aeroplanes (Sadly)

Say, what's that mountain goat doing up here in the mist?

Sequestration killed a bunch of airshows last year
in the USA, too. I remember reading about an
airshow in Georgia in 2013 where an RCAF F-18
was the only iron
The paperwork for an airshow in Canada is incredible,
and requires a massive organization working far ahead
of time. And, it's tough to make it on the gate - you
need corporate sponsorship.

Re: Airshow in Manitoba??
The modern problem with running an airshow is public weather forecasting. If the public forecast is "chance of showers" then people don't come to your show. You get a crowd of 4,000, not 25,000, and you lose money.
Forecasters seem very pessimistic, and concerned with liability, these days, and tend to put in "chance of showers" to most summer day forecasts.

True.. also Insurance costs dont help. $100k for two days, non refundable when I contemplated arranging one years ago. Pretty much killed all the smaller shows :(
Even aerobatic contestes were $1000 a day:(
