Most of the work is out west in Manitoba and Sask. One good thing to have is a strong background in agriculture. It's a very steep learning curve if you didn't grow up in the industry. Extensive tail wheel time is a must. No way around it as all Canadian spray planes are tail draggers. Most companies insure their aircraft through CAIR (Canadian Applicators Insurance Recirocal). In order to get insured you need some booms on time. In order to get some booms on time, you can either work for a a company that does not insure the hull (liability only) until you gain enough experience. Or take an Aerial Application course. Runs around $16k and can only be done in two places in Canada. Battlefords Airspray in North Battleford, SK or Leading Edge Aviation in Yorkton, SK. It is not a "time builder" or an "entry level job". Try to get some low level experience.

A good place to start reading is the Canadian Aerial Applicators Association website. http://www.canadianaerialapplicators.com

Does anyone know the minimum spraying hours one needs to qualify for drift and liability insurance?
