Does anyone have any info on yourself or another pilot who has successfully received funding from HRSDC for a type rating? Any info would be appreciated. PM me if you wish, my objective is to attain a few names of successful applicants to enhance my application.

Cheers!

Thanks cyyz,

Did a search a found some info on pilots getting up to $20k from HRDC for training.

I've PM'd them, but I looking for more info as I know it's out there. Most specifically, type ratings.

If anyone knows of anyone who has received funding for a specific type rating, PLEASE let me know as this info really enhances my case to receive funding.

Try another search for types on Boeing's(specific one) I recall us bashing someone who got a type rating courtesy of the tax man and now they fly out of asia and are non-resident of canada ie, we're not seeing a penny comming back to us..

You could always pay for it yourself (read: get a/better job) rather than looking for a free ride off tax payers. That money is better spent in other areas of Canada's structure, growth and future, instead of having HRDC pay for your PPC.

One step further, gain employment with a company that doesn't require potential pilots to be typed on company a/c. Or sign a training bond.

Dual citizenship by chance? Foreign company job offers if your typed?

Can't agree with you there Jeremy,

I say keep looking for the answers that you need, and take anything that you can get out of HRDC, you have been paying into it since you have been working and if there are funds available for retraining/upgrade training, go for it. One less person on EI.

With today's unemployment rate, esp. in Alberta or BC, if anyone chooses to be on EI, it's solely b/c of too much pride to take a non-aviation job. There is work out there. It's everywhere. (before I get flamed for these comments, I went on EI two or three years back...in Alberta)

Taxpayer dollars should obviously be used to help Canadian citizens. However, I disagree with someone sticking-out their hand expecting/hoping for a free ride when there is plenty of work out there. They just lack the stones to stick-it-out and put their time in, like the majority of us already have.

Yes it is possible to get funding. I just had my IFR paid for by service canada. The paper work and government b.s. is unbelieveable. It took months from he first time I stepped into the office to when I was able to start my training. But if you put in the time and effort, it is possible.

I don't hate the player, but I agree with RJ, I do hate the game. If the goal behind gov't grants is to keep ppl from pogey lines then it's kind of a waste of time to use them in the aviation industry.

Gov handouts by volume are proportional to the un employement rate locally. On the rock where 20% are unemployed, they'll pay for PPC's if you prove you'll get an interview or twou out of it. In AB fogettaboutit mang. EI handots are controlled provincially so you may have to shop around for the right province to get "layed off" in.

So Jeremy, humour me for a minute here,

Say, you have been a commercial pilot for ten years or so. You now get laid off from a company that has slowed down/shut down or whatever. Are you saying that I should go get a job at Home Depot as opposed to collecting EI for a few months. Why would or should I do that. If I have been paying into our wonderfull EI system for the last decade why shouldn't I take advantage of the benefits that it offers.

I don't think that getting or using the benefits that I have been paying towards for the life of my employment time should be considered as "getting a free ride".

If you can survive on what EI pays there is no need to get that "non-aviation related job" and I don't think that anybody at EI expects you to do so. But if that is what you want to do, fill your boots!!

I know of people getting navajo and twotter ratings, or whole aviation programs paid for, but as for the bigger jets i have heard of people getting them, but it seems rare.
Every single person that i know that has gotten something paid for by HRDC has in turn gotten work through the training and were off the EI dole.
Would you rather someone sit on EI.. or get what companies sadly recquire for you to get that job?
it's a win win for people paying into the system. EI premuims have gone down over the years because there has been such a surplus, that money you dump in it every pay cheque doesn't even get used up.

And where are those people flying now??? In Canada? Do they send their taxes in from overseas??? Don't lie....

And yes, it's cheaper for them to sit on welfare you get booted off EI in about 10 months(or so?)

Maybe the premiums could go lower and be further reduced, if isn't being used... <sheesh>
