what about those people outside of the Venn diagramhz2p wrote:To be a "good" flight instructor, you need to be both a knowledgeable and skilled pilot, and also a good teacher.
Frankly, I have never met a low-time pilot who was either of the above, though I guess someone somewhere has to win the lottery, and that's the story we always hear about time after time.
In addition to being a good pilot and a good teacher, to be a good flight instructor you also have to be willing to work for crap wages.
If we take Venn diagrams - 3 circles, each representing the set of good pilots, good teachers, and people willing to work for poverty level wages - there really isn't a whole lot of overlap there in the intersection of all 3 circles.

We're only as good as the breakfast we eat and the amount of mind left not worrying about our lives.

Now I know why you always edit your posts after 20 minutes.hz2p wrote:Without a doubt, flight instructors are objectively the n-word of aviation.
But personally I think it's the guys that work the ramp.

I trust the fast food boys and girls to keep my gravy hot enough so as not to get food poison, and they earn close to flight instructor wages... at least they get discounts on the food! If a fast foodie screws up, countless people get sick and even die, if an instructor screws up only 2 people might die, so its not really that big of a responsibility.
