Interesting to place a name with an incident.

Yesterday I was launched out of YQQ on his ELT. During mission prep we learnt that there was an associated overdue (no closure of flight plan).

A company helicopter was in the area actively searching for Rowdy when we arrived on scene. The helo had found his crashsite and provided us with the GPS coord's.

We experienced a few "issues" with excess civilian traffic - all trying to help. At one point we actually had to stop part way through our SAR drops to avoid another helicopter that was heading directly for the crash site.

A sobering point for us all to remember - all aviation crashes are the jurisdiction of the Federal Government (in this case, the Canadian Forces). If you receive direction from an onscene SAR asset, you must and will comply. The folks on the ground were oblivious to this law and could have killed Rowdy while they extracted him from the plane. We were 5 minutes away from dispatching highly trained medical personnel to the scene when this disruption occurred.

Nevertheless - glad to hear that Rowdy is doing well. He did everything right to ensure his survival. His flight plan was detailed in his route and his ELT saved his life.

Rowdy , now is a great time to let the important people in your life help you out. Your not troubling them by letting them help you.
Get well.

Rowdy, Does this mean that over our next beer the Bull Shit is only going to waste deap with your jaw wired? I know we joked about chuggin a pitcher through a straw but you know I can't justify money on a staw these days. Im still coming out there for a ride in that float plane this summer, you will be at the controls buddy!

Funny though he watched Top Gun he's more of a Air America guy

All joking aside man, get well and I know you will be back in the saddle, we have all been there in our type of flying and sometimes that luck comes up double zero's. You have the Character that you will learn from this and you did your best, to that we are thankfull that your still with us and hope that its not to long before your back in the Air where you belong (just not up that high, I know your afraid of hieghts)

Hi Everyone,

I'm a friend of Rowdy's from back when the only flying he was doing was jumping his K-car over railway tracks.

I have yet to go see him, but according to mutual friends, he's doing quite well. Rather battered and bruised, but still laughing.

As the OP mentioned, he can still wiggle his toes, but he'll be enjoying the fine taste of steak in a blender for several weeks. His jaw is getting set and pinned tomorrow morning, which is good stuff, as I can't imagine it being loose - at least I would want to be on the "good meds". Due to his broken vertebrae, he's laid out for now, but will apparently be fitted for a back brace tomorrow, so that he can sit up.

That brings me to my point. I'll be bringing my laptop when I go to visit him tomorrow evening so that he can read this thread, so with a little luck you'll either have a post from him or something by proxy through me.

Rowdy,
I don't know what to say really other than get better and we'll have to do beers soon. I do hope you are going to be OK and will talk to you about it soon. Give me a call when you get the chance or let us know on here where you are and I'll come visit you..
BTW, when you ask for the sponge bath, make sure it's a female nurse doing it..
Cheers buddy

Rowds,

You know we all have your back on this. Whatever you need, we'll get it to you. Hell if you want a crappy job at my shitcan operation, you let me know. Women, men, animals, vegetables, fruit, invertabrae...whatever you need. It's all at your disposal.

Now, don't get hooked on painkillers there buddy. I don't want to hear about you held up in some extravagent room, naked, and asking people to "come in with the milk" repeatedly. I will have some flowers sent to you care of Juan Trippe though, because you are THE REAL AVIATOR.

Get well...We love ya buddy!!!

Yes yes, on that sacred note. Whatever they give you, remember, you are a strapping young lad, so you need two. One for you, one for your Willie.

Get well soon, my kindred lakota.

William.

I'm a stranger Rowdy but wish you all the best. I myself had a near death industrial accident years ago, tbh and based on my experience, you're in for an interesting, albeit - tough journey.

Remember, regardless of how low you may feel going forward, you WILL recover.......seems you have the love and respect of many, as some have mentioned - now is the time to take strength from those willing to give.

One day at a time and all will be well!

Take Care :-)

Rowdy,

Remember that sometimes life has a funny way of doing things, but in the end things work out. This obstacle is only a part of your journey, and I wish you the best while you are overcoming it.
