which was affectionately known in the RCAF as the "clunk" or "lead sled". Our #4 pilot used to do air shows in the CF-100 ... he would spin that 17-ton behemoth at low altitude - at least until HQ heard about it and put a stop to it

The British and the Australians designated it the Dakota (a clever acronym composed of the letters DACoTA for Douglas Aircraft Company Transport Aircraft
The RAF, named there A/C after various things the american built aircraft tended to be named after the indian tribes apache, dakota, mohawk. The RN tended to name there airplanes after seabirds. skua, martlet gannet etc...
