It would be far more than most of them are making now.

Why not just get a job?

Just to clarify things... you don't think that instructing is work?

So WWG, now that you have got that off your chest what are your thoughts on the suggestion that I made to increase instructors pay?

By the way I agree that you will get paid by your value. The tough part of that is building a customer base and flying enough hours.

It can be done, my rates make instructing profitable enough for me.

Where'd who go? wrote:Hi -Guy,

Oh, don't get me wrong... Instructing is work indeed.

It just doesn't pay 50g's. (in most cases, some restrictions may apply, void where prohibited, see dealer for details)

Wage is based upon the "value" that is placed upon the work done. So, if Pilots / Instructors continue to prostitute themselves, they will never be paid the money that they feel they should be making.

In other words... one shouldn't reasonably expect to make $50,000 per year as an Instructor. The job is simply not "worth" that.
I was lucky enough to not make less than 30k/year for every year I instructed (save the first year as a class 4), and more than 50k for 1/2 of the time I instructed.

Of course, I was a career instructor, and pretty good at what I did (do?). Was I an exception to the rule? Most likely. I wouldn't have been able to raise a family on what many other companies pay.

I think its pretty snotty of a school to pay an instructor (class 4) $14p/hr when they charge them out for $45-50p/hr. I'm pretty sure other trades/professions don't get that kind of ratio.

Luckily I found a school that pays $22 p/hr for a 4 and $27 for a 3.

Maybe we should start a union? :)
