Upgrade times and pay.

Post by zipper »

Hi,

How long to upgrade to left seat on an Embraer these days? Also, if you do it prior to the four year mark are you still on the locked in low pay or do you get Captain's pay?

If you do a search you'll find threads talking about upgrade times. A captain position definitely activates captain pay, nobody would upgrade otherwise.

I'm not at AC.

I didn't take the op like this at all. What's wrong with asking a few questions?
Bottom guy is less than a year on property.
Upgrading takes you off flat pay onto formula pay. Once you're cut loose.

Lol Airmail didn't take too long for a troll. But to answer your question. The time to become a skipper of a 777 for a well deserving person such as yourself here is the breakdown

15 min to exit your parents basement and get into to your car
10 min to drive to local bestbuy
15 min in store to buy newest edition of flight sim because hey your going to be a 777 skipper you can afford it
10 min to drive home
5 min to exit car and re enter parents basement
30 min to install
5 min to find that old monopoly game and take out all the money. ( if I remember correctly there is a few thousand)

So that's how you become a 777 skipper with lots of money very quickly!

Cheers!

The most jr 320 capt is 4 years today.
Whether that comes up or down remains to be seen.

Is there any way to work less? I'd like to join AC but the thought of flying around 1000 hours a year again makes me want to hide under the blankets. Currently flying around 200 hours a year for about $75k. I'd like to advance my career and make more money but 1000 hours is a big jump from the workload in which I've become accustomed to.

Here are a few strategies...

bid the low end of the block window month to month...

bid reserve and try not to fly and only collect the guarantee...

stay senior in a junior position and bid the most productive flying and get your month done in 7-10 work days depending...

become a manager or sim instructor or get a position at ACPA... those seats are all filled with guys that don't want to fly...

In the end though we generally get paid by the minute, if money is your goal, maybe you should suck it up and get to work.

Is it that you don't want to do many hours or want to spend more time at home?

If you want the most time at home the best strategy would be to become an RP and as you become senior you'll get your days of work down to 8 or so a month. The next move would be your choice - become a senior narrow body FO and do 7-10 day turns a month or wait to become a seniorish widebody pilot doing 7-10 days a month of overseas flying. The key would be to stay in positions until you can bid the next one to a high enough seniority number that you would get a schedule you are satisfied with.

Just walk into the interview and clearly state that you deserve to be 777 right away or at least very very soon. It is an infallible strategy, big red will say yes immediately on the spot so that they do not lose a gem of an employee.

Any current info on how long to an Embraer Captain position? Any strategies to improve your chances? Does being an Embraer F/O as your first position help that or does it not work that way?

Straight seniority determines the position you can hold.

Junior EMJ Captain YYZ is about a year.

Junior 320 Captain is maybe 3 years.

Don’t forget you have to jump through some hoops. That probably goes without saying though.

1000 hours or less, get hired. 500 hours later, EMB Captain.

Good deal!

This surpasses the situation in 1960 and 1970 by far. Not too many people in society get a 150K job within the space of one year....

Are the Embraers being retired when the C-Series and 737's arrive? When is that happening? What would happen to a Junior Captain if their fleet gets sold off? I imagine some more senior F/O's would want to bid for Captain on the new planes.

Took me 10+ years busting my ass just to get to AC in my mid 30s... hardly a 150K job in a year...

US legacy airline FOs are $150K second year... don't even have to bid left seat...
