Looking for ADS-B out recommendations
Hi all,
Our transponder bit the dust in our 172 and because we travel to the USA quite a bit, we figure we may as well upgrade from a Mode C Transponder to one that meets the requirements for the US starting in 2020. We only fly VFR in this aircraft.
We are considering the Garmin GTX 335 Transponder but we are open to suggestions. What do you recommend? Anyone recently upgrade?
Thanks for the help!

I installed the Appareo Stratus ESGi earlier this spring in my RV6A. It was fairly straightforward, and comes with the GPS antennae. At the time I felt it was the most affordable option, and fit in the panel where my old King transponder was. It worked well on a recent flight from BC to St. Vincent and the Grenadines in the Caribbean, and it was great to have the traffic and weather on Foreflight for the US portion.

Sorry to go off topic, but man, I'd love to hear that story. That's a hell of a trip.rv6a wrote:I installed the Appareo Stratus ESGi earlier this spring in my RV6A. Yes, it was a hell of a trip, a once in a lifetime adventure. We took part in the Governor General's Air Rally and finished third. - 59.2 hours air time, 66.1 hours flight time, 8,413 nautical miles, 10 islands, 11 countries,9 states, 2 provinces. All in a single engine aircraft I built myself 15 years ago, VFR and no autopilot If there's interest, I can try and write something up. Half the battle was getting to Florida.... Thunderstorms, Tornadoes, Pensacola Airspace, etc.
