Pilatus Porter in Indonesia

I was watching a documentary about young British pilots flying Porters in Indonesia. It was last winter when I seen the show. If anyone has any information on the company could you PM me. Thanks.

You can google Suzy Air, you will have a lot of informations!

Very popular company for someone who don't want (or can't) be a CFI, or some people that can't get a job in their home country.

Often this route will be the last option... This company doesn't have the safest record and is known to push limits. On the other side, it's a very good place to develop your experience by doing landing/takeoff in high density altitude airports with shorts runways.

I know of a guy who went there to fly the Caravan, moved up the ranks into a training position and did quite well for himself.

I worked closely with them during my time in Indonesia. Their horrible accident record is a result of under qualified (local) pilots going into some very demanding locations. Jungle strips, mountainous terrain, massive thunderstorms... you can easily find yourself in a bit of a pickle if you aren't familiar with your limits. Now I can't comment on the maintenance or pay side of things, but from my outside perspective it looked like a real fun and challenging place to work. If I were to go there I would keep myself on a real short leash at first.

Some of Canada's operators have a pretty horrible accident record as well, incidentally.

I'm pretty sure none of Susi Air's accidents have had Indonesian pilots, nor do I agree that the pilots who had accidents at Susi Air being particularly under qualified.

I've watched the series about Susi Air. If I were 20 years younger & single, it looks like a pretty cool adventure for a few years.

Flying over to Indo on your own dime to get "evaluated" for the possibility of flying a caravan as a "first officer" is a pure joke.
I would stay away. The way the industry is right now there is no need to go that route.
You want adventure? Plenty of other places that you can do that.

Have a buddy who started his trade there right seat in the van. Now flies airbuses in China. Can't be all that bad. Probably depends on the individual. Still a big risk flying to Indo and risk failing compass testing. Each to their own though.

I was in Denpasar two days ago. A trip to Indonesia would be fun whether it nets a job or not. Nice people, cheap, good food, and er...good times to be had. If you're into that sort of thing.

Kind of takes the "risk" out of the equation - have a blast and if you get a job out of it, bonus.
