Air Transat, stuck on Tarmac. Power went out or was cut, no AC. Pax called 911, who handed out water. That shouldn't need to happen.

I wonder at what point I would have forced the airline to deplane everyone by pulling a slide and getting out.

Apparently there were 30 flights diverted there. No gates or stairs available. The slides were the only way off

Paramedics were able to board, so they must have had a stair from somewhere.

Do that every airline in Canada would put you on a permanent no fly list.

Do you know that to be a fact, or is that just wishful thinking :-) ?

Makes you wonder how long they can legally keep you on board without food, drinks or temperature control.

I secretly hope passengers would start pulling slides in cases like these, so airlines would deplane people sooner. I'd guess it only takes 2 people to pull slides after 2 hours and nobody will ever have to stay on board a plane boiling in the sun for more than 2 hours ever.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

That's true. If paramedics can get on then people can get off

On of these days there will be a mutiny and the emergency exits will be opened and tossed on the tarmac.

Before anyone say there were no stair available like Transat claimed, the airport confirmed there was.
Krista Kealey, a spokesperson for the authority, said stairs were made available to the airline shortly after it landed, but Air Transat did not request to have its passengers disembark.

"We don't own the air stairs; the carriers own them. But we verified with the ground-handler that they had stairs available," she said.

Not only were stairs available, Kealey said, but there was also plenty of fuel for the additional 20 aircraft. And although there was a wait to refuel, all of the other planes managed to tank up and fly out in short order.

Would the crew even be legal to depart after a duty period that long?

Mostly the problem is the "threatening" part of the behaviour, not the "no-fly list".

Unforeseen Operational Circumstances

700.17 The maximum flight time referred to in paragraphs 700.15(1)(a) to (e) and the maximum flight duty time referred to in subsection 700.16(1) may be exceeded if

(a) the flight is extended as a result of unforeseen operational circumstances;

(b) the pilot-in-command, after consultation with the other flight crew members, considers it safe to exceed the maximum flight time and flight duty time; and

(c) the air operator and the pilot-in-command comply with the Commercial Air Service Standards.
The standard and guidance material basically says you can extend for 3 hours because of ATC delays, mechanical or weather. Then your boss has to talk to TC about it.

It also may have been a new flight crew departing Ottawa

Ok.... I suppose would it be fair to ask why the AT Aircraft who were on the ground before others got delayed in getting their fuel supply.

Does AT fly out of YOW? Would they have a contract with the fuel handlers etc?
