Not really. He blames everyone else. Looks like yesterday there was 9 cancelled flights and almost every flight was delayed significantly. There was no weather issues that I saw. Mechanical? I'm sure porter has some spare aircraft around? So what's left, Lack of pilots?

Thanks for the article. Looks like he's dangling the jet carrot. Something that's never going to happen out of ytz.

They need to hire a media relations rep.

Did a Deluce just admit there is a worldwide pilot shortage? Ok Bob when do the pay increases start?

I have been told by a FO that any additional flying pilots do will be paid at X3. So something is happening!

Why haven't regionals like Porter (or any of the express carriers for that matter) advertised for DEC's? I would think a DEC advertisement would attract pilots with interest...those not willing to come in from the right seat and take a pay cut.

DEC would never happen at Jazz being under ALPA. Even now, there is no shortage of qualified FO's eligible for upgrade.

What kind of pilots is Porter attracting these days? Encore, Jazz, Sky, and even GGN have some form of flow to another carrier. Is Porter really the kind of place that anyone can stay at long term?

Given your post history, it looks like you were the kind of pilot that was attracted. Did you ever hear back?

To the original post,

Porter has been short Captains for the summer, often resulting in consolidating and/or cancelling flights. Bob did mention that weather across the northeast this summer has been odd to say the least. Pop-up TCU's have caused lengthy delays in EWR. BOS has construction earlier which exacerbated the problem. Lastly terminal construction at YTZ has resulted in lengthy waits for gates.

As for paying triple time, yes it is occurring, but it's a short term measure. Crews are being offered triple their hourly rate to come in work on their days off and vacation days only.

Porter management is having a sit down with its pilots next week to discuss their Pilot Retention Package. Things are happening, and it'll be interesting what comes out of that meeting.

Perhaps not right away, but eventually AC will empty the cockpits of tier 2 carriers where there is a strategic benefit to significantly affect operational capability and commercial integrity. There is little that Porter can do to protect itself if it is on the AC radar screen.

Deluce et al would be wise to look at what the future holds and see if now is the time to cash in - at a realistic price, not fantasy.

Trying to create an equivalency between Porter pilots going to AC and AC pilots going to Emirates/Singapore? Perhaps 80% of Porter pilots would like to leave Porter for AC but 0.08% of AC pilots want to leave AC for Emirates.

What a moronic statement (amongst several others).

Just keep paying triple time Bob. Everything will be OK.

I didn't know Porter had a high turnover. Thought their pilots were happy there.

Thanks for the response grey wolf. I've started asking around. Looks like most companies are starting to feel the pinch.

Rudder I've been saying the same thing. If AC wanted to shut down or cripple another company fast all they'd have to do is hire a bunch of their pilots. If AC filled two months of courses with our pilots we'd be in trouble.

Great time to learn to fly!

Porter has been on the offensive sending out messages on LinkedIn. I have not seen any Canadian airline try to recruit from LinkedIn yet by direct message, it's a first.

Didn't Air Georgian try the Linkedin recruitment tactic a year or so ago ?
