Where will the pilots come from? We can barely keep the current Canadian airlines aircraft flying.

Demographics has a lot to do with it and that will continue into the future as I see it. Reading other day RCMP is very short staffed, ditto Military, there just isn’t enough younger generation around to fill the needs. Thirty odd yrs. ago careers in Military, RCMP were very attractive, still are no doubt but tis getting the people. I don’t think it will be strictly LCC low wage vs AC widebody long haul wage (although there will be some of that) but again tis the people. Majority of Atlantic Provinces are senior citizen populations. More immigration is needed and hopefully they will produce more youngins, tis goanna be needed,

"It will also need to hire a predominantly new staff, so that it can pay them the lower wages needed to underpin the ultra-low fares, particularly as the parent airline faces continued unionization"

Re: A Good Read.
It isn't hard to see that there is a pilot pay shortage. Not a pilot shortage.
You can make more at a regional airline in the USA than a major in Canada.
2nd year pay at Air Canada is $57/hour. 70 hour reserve guarantee. Or $3990/month CDN
American Airlines is $130/hour with a reserve of 76 hours or $9880/month USD.
2nd Year AC is $35,910 usd
2nd Year AA is $118,560 usd
A $82,650 difference?????? Wtf.
Not to mention the upgrade time at AC is 17 years vs 8 at American Airlines.
The pay rates are not even in the same league. Canada is going to have to make some huge changes in order for attract new pilots.
