Northway Aviaiton LTD

Post by CGZMT »

Hey everyone, Hope everyone is having a good day. I recently came across a job posting for Northway aviation LTD. I was just wondering if any of you fellow pilots have flown with them before or still are flying for them. I am looking to apply there for a dock position and was just wondering how the company is to work for. Also if they have cabins for there employees or if the employees have to find a place of there own. Also any other information about them would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the help

No idea about the accomodations but, from the pilots I have talked to there it is a good place to work. Pretty good pay for the ramp as far as I know.

Cheers

CGZMT, I hope you're keeping the angle of bank in that thing less than 45 degrees.

I'd say that's a given if there's an angle of bank restriction, thanks. :smt098

ZMT, I don't know what your hours are but Northway is where more than a few pilots got there first flying job, provided they do time on the dock/ramp first. The dock bitch/ramp rat job will definitely be for a minimum of one season and possibly part of a second season, but you will eventually get on an a/c so be patient. They have a room (for rent) at the Biscuit Harbour float base and there is a pilot house at Pine Dock, two klicks away. You could be working at Northways lodge (Sassaginigak) at where you would stay. Generally the cabins are for guests but from time to time have been used by Northway's staff for bbq's and b-day's ect. I've never flown for Northway but as in any flying job in the bush be prepared for long days with little time off.

I worked there. You are expected to fly in very poor weather and I found the maintenece to be a little sgady.

That is all.

Well we can't expect every day to be cavok now can we? I've never been asked to fly in anything below legal minimums, and anything borderline has always been my call. The maintenance guys have been good to me - but then I try to be good to my airplane. And the hours and the pay while not perfect, are what you'd expect from any company that hires 200 hour pilots. If I'm mistaken feel free to call me on it...

Traf, how long ago did you work here? What were the conditions like that you were asked to fly in. For some pilots flying below 1000 ft is out of their comfort zone and they call that flying in bad weather. I am willing to bet that if you came out and said that I am not comfortable with these conditions the bossman would not have asked or forced you out the door. As for Mtce, the worst problem I have ever had was a broken alternator belt. The maitenance staff are sometimes slower than other carriers in the area but I know that when I am pushing the throttles up no short cuts were taken to get the plane out in time for sked.

Sincerely 805

I've also worked for Northway in the past. I look back on my time there with a real fondness. Would I move back to Pine Dock? No. But I'd love to go for a visit.
If you look towards dispatch or management for decisions with regards to weather, you are looking in the wrong direction. When I was there, if you told them you were not comfortable with the weather, that was all that was needed. Sure you might end up getting ribbed by other pilots, you know the type, the real weather hero's(805itt  ). In the end it was always the PIC who made the final call.
I would gladly fly my family in any of their aircraft. Mechanically speaking there were never any short cuts taken. Avionics? Well that was a different story on the VFR fleet :D .

Northway has great maint. and great managers. They treat their staff very well and respect them. It goes both ways. So you may have to work hard, but if you cant work hard, you are no bush pilot!
