I spent 1 1/2 years on the ramp and at that time they paid the " WANNABEES " less then the locals. Long hours and shit pay. One a more positive the pay was better then my first year flying for them. That was also seven years ago. Hope things improved!
good luck with it. 8)

Pickle Lake is the biggest dump I've ever seen. Sioux Lookout is a step up with movie theatre and a few other things .
I am sure there are worse places to be but it was not at all where I wanted to be.
cheers

Conditions haven't improved in the 7 years since you left. Why would they? A constant stream of people to fill any positions that come up ensures the conditions remain the same. All that said, you'll make more than enough to live. Living in a town with no gym, theatre, or really anything else to do ensures you can save your money. The fishing is world class if you're into stuff like that. Pickrel on pretty much every cast, massive brook trout and pike. You'll meet good people and make friends for life. Many people out there realize the sacrafice you've made and respect the work ethic required to make it through.

a note on making a living in Sioux Lookout to be specific.. forget about it. I lived there for over 12 years and aside from terribly high rent and utilities you'll end up throwing yourself in front of a truck to kill the boredom. The mentality is terrible and the town is crap.

BUT, if you're into a lot of ugly chicks, drugs, and nothing to do but drink and have bar room brawls then Sioux Lookouts for you!!!

Good luck...

well you won't work the ramp in YXL. YPL is definately a step below YXL in all respects.

Well what about Red Lake? They have guys on the ramp there too. It wouldn't be a bad place to live at all. Tough to find housing, apparently. Not a bad town though.

club red is clearly the better spot to live. The only draw back is once you're PCC'ed on the caravan they don't do quite as much flying out of YRL. This will be made worse if wasaya actually did lose the NWC contract to YIV and YST.

how many hours do people work in the winter, I know the summer you get over time, but is there much to do in the off season?
I hear wasaya is hourly, and if you're only working a few hours a day, how can you live?

i dont know this guy, but for you to put things on the internet about people and actually use their names, is not cool. this website is for information only, not social issues...well maybe aviation related

Right. Some of you out there seem to think that you are loved by every one you run into. Like one of the guys I used to fly with liked to say.... "walk into a room and 50% of the people like you...50% won't".

And looking at some of the post on this site as of late, some persons on here seem to think that they fart sunshine and flowers.

And no, I'm not Lance.

you better believe it. No where nicer than La Loche to spend a nice night in a pub. Perhaps check out the sports bar there for an exciting night of gun fire and stabbings. The odd murder thrown in just to keep things real.
