Sorry for not straying from the Original Topic, but it's actually scary how many people where those scooter helmets or especially bike helmets backwards! Don't you think that if the strap is sitting across your face you might have it on wrong?

Unfortunately, Flightsuits is no longer allowed to sell helmets to international customers. The only have the distribution right for the USA.

We just ordered 2 helicopter helmets from these guys here: http://www.transaeroinc.com/ they are the only authorized dealer for Gentex products in Canada.

As for Ebay, I wouldn't! Helmets are designed to save your head should you be in a realy bad spot. When you buy a used one, you never know where it went and how poorly it was treated. A nice paint job goes a long way in making a helmet look new. These things are somewhat expensive, but I still think it is worth to buy new.

TransAero will not post prices online. You have to call them. As far as communication equipment is concerned, they have many different options to offer but all helmet come with the high impedence microphone and headset. Variation in prices for different type of boom for the mic.

Best thing is to call them, they will patch you to their Canadian rep and he will quote you $cdn prices.

Cheers,

Actually, I bought a lot of stuff on EBay, including avionics, and I was never deceived. Everything always worked as advertized. The feedback rating system seems to be reliable. I would probably buy it there.

Expat,

I agree with you, most stuff you buy on ebay is probably just fine. But I wouldn't buy a used safety device like a helmet. If the helmet was used in a colision of some sort, it has to be replaced for it will most likely not offer the same level of protection on a second occasion. Nothing against ebay, but if you want to buy a helmet just to look cool, fine. If you want to rely on it should the need arrise, buy new.

My 2cents, :)

Part of the joy of buying a NEW helmet is that your head is measured ( in my case, they took a wax "mold" ) so that the helmet fits you properly. That way it FITS, doesn't wobble or give you a headache 15 minutes into your flight.

If you can find one on ebay that FITS, go for it. Also if you only plan on wearing it for 20 hours a month maybe its alright ( wouldn't be for me). They are pricey, no lie about that... but so is a new Bose headset :)

I wore mine for up to 14 flying hours a day - if it didn't fit it would have made life miserable. BTW it was a Gentex from Flightsuits with the noise cx upgrade.

Don't forget to drive around in your car with it on, just to make sure it fits right!

Rush hour traffic works good, you learn to sweat in it.
