6.00x6 nose wheel in C150

Post by Bede »

Has anyone ever seen a 6.00x6 on a stock C150 nose wheel? I know AirGlas offers an STC for a large wheel up front but I heard that Cessna offered this as an option from the factory. Will a 6" wheel fit a stock fork?

Hi Bede,

If you consult the Cessna 150 Parts Manual, you will see that Cessna had a Heavy Duty Nose Gear which used a 6.00x6 wheel. You can Google Cessna 150 Parts Manual, and there are multiple PDF's available for free. The fork and lower strut are different. P/M shows all the different P/N's. So no, the larger nose wheel will not fit standard fork.

Cheers,

The factory "heavy duty" nosewheel for a 150 is a 6.00-6-15 size, which is a smaller diameter tire, with the width of the 6.00-6. The fork in the parts catalog is that standard for the C337. The installation is distinct, in that the torque link points forward. That said, if you really need a wider nosewheel on a 150, you're probably on the bitter edge of being in ground too soft for the plane.

Be mindful that the factory hd nose gear was limited up to about the 1967 model year. Plus there is also a Canadian adapplicable to it. There might be stc's out there.
