I have a buddy with AirSprint he said they're hiring like mad. Also, he said the owner gave all the line crew significant raises! They seem to be doing really well. 10 PC-12's with 2 more on the way. 2 Citation Excel's with 1 on the way, and a Lear 40 that they will be operating come Jan. 06. Crazy. It's about time a company honors the work of pilots. What have the rest of you been hearing about AS?
It just seems to be doing good is all. The industry is picking up which is great for all involved, so it's good to see companies stepping it up a notch to keep good people around. I know AirSprint has been through many ups and downs. More downs, but from what I here the upper hand has been resturctured to make it a better place... not good... better.

Honors ???
" It's about time a company honors the work of pilots. "
Why should anyone "Honor "someone that is basically an equipment operator? I can agree that pilots should be paid, but I'm damned if I can find anything honorable about being a pilot.
Of course you were joking?

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

They have several 300-350 hr f/o's who have worked the ramp/office to eventually move into the flight line. I think the 1500 hr req. is to move guys fairly quickly into the left seat and eventually into the jets. When pilots average 50-65 hrs/mo. it takes a long time to progress. If a guy were to go to AS with higher time it would make the progression through easier. Thats how i see it.
Cat Driver,
Pilots are over-worked and under-paid as a starting out in canada. We pay a lot of money to get started and when starting out are often taken advantage of. Its nice to see that us as "equipment operators" as you put it, are seeing the results of an industry full of uncertainty turning around yet again and "honouring" pilots by paying them and treating them well. Its just nice to see is all.

I have been drinking tonight so please excuse my manners. A company who askes for a degree in the past , now states that they would like to have an education to the university entrerance lavel, go fuk yourself, if I wanted to get a degree that would be useless in 10 years than i would have done so, but I do not. I hate that bullshit. If I lose my medical then I will go do something I want to do, not what a company likes to see on a resume. And as turbine said, you pay a load of money to get a license and some a$$hole wants you to have a degree to boot, well like I said.

A degree is purely an easy way for an employer to test the waters of commitment. The airlines have been doing it for years and are only realising that there are many other ways of demonstrating commitment in the work place and therefore they are changing their own ways. I think the key is, relax and don't dis what you don't have. Trust me. You may start enjoying life just a litltle more.

Fair market value is the price that the buyer and the seller agree to. If pilots are accepting lower salaries than you think is acceptable, maybe your view of the market is skewed. As long as pilots agree to work for the pay operators are offering, then we have arrived at the market value of pilot services.
Should pilots want to increase their market value, then collectively they need to withold services to increase the demand and decrease the supply. Essentially what OPEC does with oil.
But alas it will never happen because as a group, pilots have, are, and will continue to eat their young to get into the front end faster or get into bigger iron sooner than their pilot buddy.
Sad but true.
