Retention Bonus
Hearing rumors of a retention bonus for Porter pilots, any details??
Re: Retention Bonus
Are their minimums still at 1500 hours " real expectations" ?WF9F wrote:Hearing rumors of a retention bonus for Porter pilots, any details??
Re: Retention Bonus
There have been several 1000 hr new hires, all through the Destination Porter program; 1500h is definitely a reasonable number these days. The last few of classes have a mix of a couple lower time (1000- 1500h ish) folks with the rest being fairly high time.marakii wrote: Are their minimums still at 1500 hours " real expectations" ?
Re: Retention Bonus
If you had a mix of log book time around 800 hours and the rest about 300 hours as an airliner simulator instructor , would that help?chipmunk wrote:There have been several 1000 hr new hires, all through the Destination Porter program; 1500h is definitely a reasonable number these days. I know the 300 simulator instructor time is not TC legit bug just the experience in teaching systems, CRM, emergency procedures, etc.
Just wanted to get a feel on how employers see this jetliner simulator instructing "experience".
Thanks
Re: Retention Bonus
Is it a FFS simulator? What type?
Nonetheless, Sim instruction isn't flying time.
IMO you would do a disservice to yourself to include it in your resume or logbook. I know how desperate low timers are to get hours, but those don't count, flying the simulator doesn't count, let alone sitting in the back.
I think they would see your position as "CRJ (or whatever type) Sim Instructor" being a plus on your job experience though.
Lots of jobs out there right now. I can't imagine people are having a difficult time getting a good seat.

I don't count the simulator instructor time as a means of getting a job, just to see having this type of "other experience" in helping to get a position. I know it doesn't countil and it's not flying that's all.altiplano wrote:Is it a FFS simulator? What type?

Re: Retention Bonus
It would probably put you "above" another 800h candidate with no sim instructor time, but that's not the only consideration hiring boards take into account. (And as noted by others above, sim instructor time is definitely not part of your TT.)marakii wrote:

Why don't you come to the Open House on Nov 23 and ask the question in person? Lots of face time with hiring personnel and Flt Ops management. (RSVP is required, info on another thread here.)
Re: Retention Bonus
I know it doesn't count as part of TT of course. I did attend the open house last year and it was exciting to see the range of ages from waterloo students to 55 year Olds.chipmunk wrote:It would probably put you "above" another 800h candidate with no sim instructor time, but that's not the only consideration hiring boards take into account. I talked to the guy that hires and they're looking at people that have "2.pilot crew time" and not necessarily on twins .
It was a nice time for sure.
Re: Retention Bonus
To the OP, see this thread from a few months back, had some retention info...scroll about halfway down page.

Re: Retention Bonus
Is the one time retention bonus after 2-3 years still being offered to new hires or was that only temporary ?
Even without the one time bonus, they seem to pay slightly better than Jazz and Encore.

Re: Retention Bonus
If you have 1500 hrs skip flying a noisy clothes washer and go fly a heavy for Cargojet. Their minimums are now also 1500.
Re: Retention Bonus
The retention bonus (one time deal, at this point) was for anyone who was on the property as of Dec 31, 2017. I believe they may have extended the offer to the first 2 FO classes in Jan and Mar, although I'm not certain.
There hasn't been any other developments with regards to "retention". Questions were asked in a recent town hall meeting, and the replies were that we had 320 on the roster, so our numbers were 'healthy'. Management planned attrition at 6 people/month, with a spike in April.
The only positive is that there will be an increase of 1.57% to the current scales (due CPI/COLA) come Jan 2019.

Does Porter hire DEC's or is that a thing?

Re: Retention Bonus
Currently 3.00$/hour Time Away From Base (TAFB).
(It was 2.50$ when it started, changed to 2.75$ in Sep 2017; and 3.00$ in Jan 2018)
If you do single days or are on reserve, it'll be much less than those who do multi-day overnight trips.
I'd venture a guess a range of about 3000$ to 9000$
Scale indexing was introduced in the summer of 2017, and effective Jan 2018.
Every year the scale goes up the average of the last 10 years CPI.
Jan 2018 - 1.63%
Jan 2019 - 1.57%

Is it possible to fly and sleep at your own bed each night at Porter after you gain seniority?
Guys like us that have families is it possible to achieve this or do you still do quite a few overnights?
Thanks
Re: Retention Bonus

It will always depend on these factors:
- Your seniority (what you bid VS. you can hold)
- How healthy/deep the reserve pool is
- Target credit hours window for the month (typically 78 to 88)
- Pairing Construction (how many of each type of trip that is available; 1-2-3-4 day trips)
Porter has you on the schedule for 18 days, 12 off.
A minimum credit day is worth 4.
Longer days, or longer legs; mean more credit (actual block or half duty)
So to meet the target window, you need to bid accordingly. How you fill it, is via your bid preferences, and what you can hold via seniority.
18 days at 4 credits average = 72
18 days at 4.5 credits average = 81
16 days at 5 credits average = 80
14 days at 6 credit average = 84
12 days at 7 credit average = 84
15 days at 5.5 credit average = 82.5
13 days at 6.5 credit average = 84.5
Draw your own conclusions based on what works for you. Aim for 84, and see how many days and at what credit you need to be to achieve it.
Yes can be home every night if your seniority allows it, but you will be working long days in order to fill that block.
3-4 day trips are often higher in credit, so you can work in concentrated blocks and have more days off, but you're away from the family.
