2018 Pilot Hiring
Historically what is Sunwing's typical seasons for hiring ?
Anyone have any insight into 2018 hiring? other than that they plan to hire "indefinitely for the next 12 to 24 months"
Does anyone know if they have hired below their 3000 TT ATPL threshold? If so what sort of experience did they have (excluding the cadets) ?
Can anyone confirm that their pilot group is unionized under Unifor?
Does Sunwing have a internal matrix time when it comes to upgrade? if so what is it?

Hired 42 around spring and around another 50 this fall. Interviews and hire are still going on. I'm not sure how many in 2018. I'm guessing around the same.gravelpapi wrote:Historically what is Sunwing's typical seasons for hiring ?

Sunwing usually hires in the months leading up to the winter season including all the way back to spring so that they are not overwhelmed when the winter schedules are in full effect.
Pilots are unionized. Unifor 7378
Upgrades are seniority and merit base and require 5,000 hours TT with 2,000 hours on jet of 100,000lbs or more. For every year at Sunwing you can reduce the time by 500 hours not to exceed 1,000 hours.

Not sure about that. But if they were to start hiring f§£¥ing idiots I’m sure you’d be at the front of the line.

I can confirm for the time being hiring is done via internal recommend.
As per the internal memo; Interviews are being conducted this week and next week. First 2 weeks of December 2017.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Is there a set date for any groundschool in January? Heard 737 Westjetters have recently interviewed..!
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
I am legitimately curious why anyone sitting 737 WJ would interview at Sunwing?JoeyBarton wrote: ↑Mon Dec 11, 2017 3:22 pm Is there a set date for any groundschool in January? Heard 737 Westjetters have recently interviewed..!
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Oh ok.
I'd be curious how a career at WJ compares to a career at Sunwing?

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Upgrades at WS are sitting around 7 years time on the one list. They have not budged much over the last 4-5 years since Encore started up. As per a recent communication, no upgrades are planned at the teal team until late next year.
I have a buddy at Sunwing. He figures upgrades are 2-3 years tops and dropping quickly. He likes to call Sunwing Canada's best kept secret. I think the pay package is probably better at WestJet but if you can get into a left seat in half the time, you'd certainly make up some of the difference.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Something to consider as well as far as money goes is the ability to deploy.
You can make an extra 25k to 40k during the Summer, all perdiem not taxable.
I don't know if it is as good as WJ paycheck but it certainly helps.

Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
Seriously? That would be enough to get me to consider applying. I looked at the pay scales in the contract and they were definitely lower than WS. Considering that this is all untaxable money, that would seriously close the gap.
Re: 2018 Pilot Hiring
It is serious. Gravelpapi has published the link for the cba earlier (it is public of course). You also have the winter deployment, less lucrative but still an extra 1500 $ a month of perdiem plus apt and car provided.
What is missing is some of the Summer deployment since we have an lou.
