How similar is it actually to Sunwing? People said it is supposed to be comparableAirbrake wrote: ↑Fri Jan 12, 2018 10:21 pm Here it is folks.

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
That's way less than Sunwing, AT, etc.
Basically a captain position for FO wages. No ESP, options, etc. No opportunity to flow to WJ.
Did anyone remind these guys that everyone else is hiring these days?
What a joke.

This is a Scab Airline that was designed to undermine the pilot union at WJ, while pretending to be protecting the low end of the market. Beware that this will not go unchallenged.

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
Do you have to pick up garbage on turn arounds?
Do you work for free or 1/2 pay on deadheads and layovers?
People are going to slam pilots for going to swoop, but many also feel that leaving a six figure job to advance your career at mainline WJ is also whoring yourself out for low pay.

Word Count: Too many
Reading Time: Just long enough to make you ill
So when a certain EVP says: "I’ve heard concerns from some WestJetters that Swoop is being built to “replace” WestJet over time. Nothing could be further from the truth!" in yesterdays weekly kool aid dose....
When a few months ago he said something along the lines of "this being a great opportunity for career growth for WJ pilots...."
Can we really believe anything he / they say at this point?

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
Wow! The difference from first year mainline capt to swoop is huge! If you do factor in ESP which is 20% and profit share 5-10 percent and options!( don't work at Westjet can someone share hot much the options are a year!) So from my calculations a first year Westjet capt is about 145 a hr plus 20%= 174 a hr then add profit of let's say 5% that's 182 a hr! Over 80 a hr difference!
Not including options! This is just beyond embarrassing for a major airline! It truly is a sad day....... of any of this is inaccurate let me know but those are the numbers I come up with.

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
GS has gone mad and is going to make Westjet pilots even more mad!!!
Air Canada retiring 150 pilots a year for next 12 years.
The battle for pilots is going to be good!!!!
Let the whipsaw machine begin?
Go get em Westjet Alpa!!

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
The answer to that is of course no. Don't be naive. I guess CB is making good on his comment to "crush the pilot group".lostaviator wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 7:36 am Word Count: Too many

At 80 hours and 20 days/month = $99427.2/Year.
Or roughly 50% of the WJ mainline pay for the first year. JSYK.
I hope the executives are being paid at the same ratio.

I'm going to knock this up a notch with my spice weasle. Bam!

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
It doesn’t. He’s saying you’ll need to work that many days for 80 credit hours just to get close to $100K/yr.
What a disgrace. Work your ass off, captain of a 737, and still not even clear $100,000....

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
Well I wonder how many captains at WJ clear 100K after taxes? None the less. What a joke. This is so sad. This whole industry is sad. We're all to blame. The old guys giving us the scraps, trying to protect their pensions, etc. We young ones signing our life away to (maybe) fly an A320 for 50K a year, and the list goes on. Man, I want to quit this industry so bad. I'm slowly reaching that (personal) limit of acceptance. None the less, the moment I leave, a new sucker is willing to do it for me, for cheaper...PostmasterGeneral wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 1:12 pmIt doesn’t. Das ist mir wurst...
Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
Sadly this may be the only option if the WJ pilot group wish to protect their scope and future earnings. While unpalatable, best to draw the line while there is still something left to protect.

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
+1.
Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
AC has a b scale with Rouge. WJ wants a b scale with SWOOP. FLAIR pilot pay is an embarrassment to the profession.
There is a very disturbing trend developing here in Canada where management once again wishes to use pilot pay as a competitive tool.
If SWOOP opens with non-WJ seniority list pilots then it will be very difficult to put the genie back in the bottle.

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
AC has a B scale because the company was in a bad financial position and it had to be done to save the company. It has evolved into a better B scale then the WJ A scale. WJ brags about 49, soon to be 50 profitable quarters. Until the Minister or Forced Labour mandates we need a B scale to survive, we don't need a B scale.
Triple G and the gang should lead by example and at least give up their 30% compensation increase they received in 2015 from Meridian Compensation Partners because Wills Towers Watson thought they already had industry leading working conditions. Funny how it's ok for the "people department" to hire a third party firm who they know will increase their compensation but it's not ok for the pilots to do the same with ALPA.

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
Well, if you decide to strike, it would be illegal and your union would be fined.
You should know that prior to certification, a deal was almost completed that would have staffed SWOOP airplanes with WJ pilots, albeit at the reduced rate, and in exchange for every SWOOP tail one widebody would be brought on strength.
I think the WJ pilots have blundered into a poor negotiation position. Sad.

Captain Hourly Rates
Step 1 - $103.57
Step 2 - $119.50
Step 3 - $131.46
So what does Step 1, 2, 3 actually mean - does Step 1 = 1 year ......or 5 years or ? lol

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
Yes. It’s all ALPAs fault. It was ALMOST done. So I guess your saying WJ management decided to throw a tantrum when certification happened?NewCommercialPilot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 6:55 pm Well, if you decide to strike, it would be illegal and your union would be fined.

Re: Swoop pilot hiring.
The only thing sad around here is your attempts to try and spin ALPA as a negative NCP.NewCommercialPilot wrote: ↑Sat Jan 13, 2018 6:55 pm Well, if you decide to strike, it would be illegal and your union would be fined.

And JSYK it's your union too, regardless of how much you kick and scream

I'm SO proud and happy ALPA is around to do everything in our power to fight against this race to the bottom.
So accepting less pay in exchange for a WB is a good deal to you ? Jeez. Can't figure out why you didn't make it onto the negotiating committee LOL .
With you at the helm we would all be working for free in exchange for signed photo ops with Mr S.

Keep your "wisdom" coming. Lately it's the only comic relief I get.

Just callin it like it is.
