Air Georgian wheel falls off on take off - YYZ

Post by CanadianEh »

http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/p ... -1.4499345

The Transportation Safety Board is investigating after a wheel of a plane went off a runway at Toronto's Pearson
International Airport on Sunday evening.

A spokeswoman for the Greater Toronto Airports Authority says the Air Georgian flight became temporarily disabled on the taxiway after an aborted takeoff.

Natalie Moncur says a runway edge light was damaged. Georgian Air says the fight—operating as an Air Canada Express flight from Toronto to Hartford, Conn. — was carrying 13 passengers and two crew.

Georgian Air CEO Julie Mailhot says one of the Beech 1900's tires crossed off the main runway onto the adjoining taxiway and the aircraft was returned to the terminal following a safety inspection.

Mailhot says there were no injuries and passengers were rebooked on a flight Monday morning.

I feel bad for the crews there, having to deal with aircraft in such abysmal shape, all due to "cost savings". The AMEs at GGN are the MEL kings of Canada. (This is coming from someone that worked there, a friend, not me. I never worked for GGN)

The state of their maintenance and the way they treat their pilots, rest and duty time is becoming legendary. Finally regulators are forced to take a look at their practices. Anyone who wants to enter into their mentoring programs should seriously consider other alternatives or increase your life insurance.

The way I read it was not that a tire fell off the aircraft, but that the aircraft itself departed the runway during an aborted takeoff. Hitting a runway light in the process.

I don't. With the regionals grabbing up everyone they can, all of Georgian's pilots today have the choice to not fly there.

Obviously the reported either completely failed to understand what happened, or is illiterate. I can't figure out if it's a wheel falling off or a runway/taxiway excursion.
wheel of a plane went off a runway ... temporarily disabled on the taxiway after an aborted takeoff ... runway edge light was damaged ... one of the Beech 1900's tires crossed off the main runway onto the adjoining taxiway and the aircraft was returned to the terminal
Dammed if I can figure it out from that description.

Oh, okay - good to know I wasn't being particularly obtuse....
Disabled on a taxiway after aborting a take-off? And something that sounds like the wheel shot off the plane, hit a runway light on its way off the runway and then across the parallel taxiway. So they're trying to say that they aborted the take-off, lost a wheel, slid off the runway directly onto a taxiway, while the wheel kept going off in another direction, but then they went back to the terminal? Hmmmm... or maybe Professor Plum did it in the kitchen with the wrench....

If a wheel came off they may have rejected and lost directional control or maybe they had two PNF in that airplane?

I'm no fan of GGN, but words like classic ggn or abysmal shape seems to me those forgotten AC had a tyre fall off in April 2017 http://nationalpost.com/news/air-canada ... in-england
Classic Air Canada? Abysmal shape those 330s are?

Word on the street is that it was one of the cadets doing upgrade indoc who lined up with the runway edge lights and took off, hitting the lights.

Was he alone and had left the training pilot in the terminal?

Oh come on. These are guys and girls that want a job, just like the rest of us. I feel for them and I hope they get a better deal one day.
