Type Rating

Why would you need a type rating on a Piper M600 and not on the M500?

It's a "high performance" aeroplane as per CAR 400.01 (1)?

I understand that. But both planes are high performance but only the the M600 ask for a type rating.

I don't think an M600 can ask for anything, it's a plane.

If you are saying that the CARs or TC require a type rating for one but not the other, could you provide a reference?

I could be wrong as i dont know anything about those planes but just a quick look on pipers website the m500 has a vne off 188 while the m600 is 250 pretty sure anything 250 and over is a high performance plane and needs a type rating. I think its different in the states and both would be considered high performance

"high-performance aeroplane, with respect to a rating, means

(a) an aeroplane that is specified in the minimum flight crew document as requiring only one pilot and that has a maximum speed (Vne) of 250 KIAS or greater or a stall speed (Vso) of 80 KIAS or greater, or

(b) an amateur-built aeroplane that has a wing loading greater than that specified in section 549.103 of the Airworthiness Manual; (avion à hautes performances)"
