Re: Baldur, Manitoba
I'm very sorry to hear of this unfortunate accident and the pilots death.
Unfortunately it's been overshadowed by the Westwind ATR ( with documented control and engine issues during particular weather conditions)that crashed shortly after getting airborne at Fond Du Lac.
Other that the info on the pilot/owner there hasn't been much.I understand it was one of the later production Pa-23's originally owned by Interprovincial Pipelines.
Anyone??

On Google Earth - Gillam to Baldur is ~ 520 +/- miles, what is the range of the Piper Aztec?
Destination was the airstrip on the family farm, it would have been dark, Just past his scheduled arrival time of 6:30 p.m. Friday, contact was lost. https://globalnews.ca/news/3921302/mani ... ane-crash/

Standard tanks slightly leaned back is around 750nm(860sm). Plan for 5-5.5 hrs at 150kts. Full tanks and 520 miles no problem.

Some pilots just shouldn't be flying airplanes.
Home-made approach to his private field at night in crap weather. Another Aztec gone.
