...CESSNA BUILDS MEXICAN WIRING PLANT
Mexico is also a factor in the latest news from Cessna. The company
announced last week that it's building a 62,000-square-foot plant in
Chihuahua where wire harnesses and "small sheet metal parts" will be
manufactured. The move eliminates 110 jobs in Wichita and Cessna
wouldn't tell the Wichita Business Journal how much the new facility
is costing. "We're doing it to not only improve our business
processes, but to improve our costs," said Cessna spokesman Dick
Ziegler. Ziegler told the Business Journal that the Mexico plant will
help make the company more competitive.

This is a difficult issue. It's hard to figure out who is to blame but I believe it starts with the unions.

Unions have become far too strong. Union leaders have this idiotic idea that nobody in North America should make minimum wage no matter how menial or mindless your job is. And of course, the laziest of the lazy strongly support the unions.

Many poor and middle class would disagre with the union stance. As companies outsource, people are telling their govnernement they would rather have ANY job than no job.

Historically, Republicans have hated unions and loved big business so instead of dealing with their bullshit by encouraging businesses to pay more, they tell them that American people are far too important and knowledgable to dig ditches. No...instead they encourage outsourcing and try to tell everyone that "globalization" is the only way to succeed in today's competitive world.

The net result will be less unions, cheaper consumer goods and nobody left to afford them.

The US economy is on a collision course with reality in my opinion, in large part because the friction between unions and capitalism.

CID, are you suggesting that we should trust our lives with parts made in a factory where many of the workers are half-asleep because they have to work two jobs to make ends meet due to the fact that they are only making a below-the-poverty-line minimum wage at said factory?

Umm...no. I'm saying and a checkout clerk at Safeway shouldn't be making $20.00+ an hour.

Your wages should be proportional to the responsibility and skill your job requires. If you're an uneducated lazy slob making poverty wages, maybe you should pull up your bootstraps and rethink your life. There are plenty of people out there paying off student loans and flying for peanuts to work towards success.

There is no way to justify high wages for menial tasks. Unless of course you are a union rep who's wages are directly proportional to the wages of the people they represent.

So no. I don't think anyone should be falling asleep at a manufacturing job that is so menial and repetitive that the corresponding wage is meager. Especially when there are probably robots that can do it. But it takes skilled people to monitor and operate an automated plant. Maybe your guy needs to get off his ass and to back to school.

Seriously though, there are plenty of people who would take low paying jobs if they were available. Why does everyone have to make doctor wages? Seniors might like an easy job that enhances their fixed income. High school kids might like some part time work. And yes, there are plenty in the US who are crying about losing their jobs to outsourcing who would be still working right now if they were demanding reasonable wages.
