Sim Eval 2018
Hello Everyone,
I got the phone call for a Sim Eval today and I am looking for some current information on what to expect. From looking at other people's posts, SID departure, 360 steep turn, NDB hold, LOC approach and missed, engine failure, SE ILS. Mine is at the Seneca College campus. Is the sim set up as a King Air? Any special things to keep in mind? I have almost zero 2 crew experience so if anyone has tips to help me utilize the PM as much as possible that would be great. Thank You!

Pretty much a MIFR ride. Nothing you can really study for, it’s just to test your basic skills like CRM and situational awareness.

Just finished up. I thought it went ok. I was nervous and such and the first approach wasn't great but after that I think I got it figured out. Thanks for the help

How much 2 crew time did you have when you applied if you don't me asking?dustincanuck wrote: ↑Mon Aug 20, 2018 6:11 pm Hello Everyone,

Re: Sim Eval 2018
Hey Guys,
So I went through everything and then a few days ago got an email saying I've completed the hiring process and that I need to get to 250 so they can review my file. Did 20 hours in 2 days to get to 250 and now I haven't heard anything in a week so I'm hoping to hear something this week. I asked about groundschools and was told small ones in November December and hopefully large ones again in January. I'm assuming that means October is full. Sim was straightforward exactly what is on here.

250 hours total time or 250 hours multi engine?dustincanuck wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 9:40 am Hey Guys,

Oh dustin you’re a seneca grad or something? That’s amazing at 250tt

Re: Sim Eval 2018

Re: Sim Eval 2018
If you're like any of the other low time college hires I've flown with, I'm not worried.
Word of advice, ignore the haters. At training, in the hotel etc. you'll likely get a bit of chirps even if they are in a "nice way." Just put your head down, work your ass off, minimize the time you spend at the lobby lounge and bid the jet if you can. Everyone will tell you to take the classic since you're lower time. Don't. Bid the RJ.
Re: Sim Eval 2018
I have to disagree wholeheartedly. I don't think people suggest low-time pilots bid the classic because it's easier; rather, they suggest it because it is the most conducive to building good experience for someone who is low-time. It's the most hands-on aircraft in the fleet, where you're often doing more legs down in the weather than any other aircraft. It's also the aircraft that will do the least for you during emergencies, forcing you to actually think a bit about systems. I personally believe anyone coming straight from college is doing themselves a disservice by bidding the RJ. Given the experience levels we're seeing hired today, most should be aiming for positions that aid in developing their pilot skills, not for positions that they consider 'cool.'Lightchop wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 11:53 amIf you're like any of the other low time college hires I've flown with, I'm not worried.

Re: Sim Eval 2018
Yah I know it is kinda crazy but I'm just taking the opportunities that come to me. We'll see I haven't got a job offer yet but hopefully soon. I think the plan is the RJ. I would like to be in YVR or yyc and I hear both YVR and yyc RJ is a pretty good schedule. Anything would be amazing though so we'll just see what happens. Not Seneca btw but similar.
Re: Sim Eval 2018
250 hours and no Multi PIC...boy! You might spend your life right seat.
Good for you if you nail it but not so good for our industry IMHO.

Re: Sim Eval 2018
I don't mind flying with 250 hour guys as long as they have a good attitude and realize that they wont be doing any of the challenging approach/landings. The only thing I am not a fan of is doing stand up after stand up and being bagged and having the responsibility as a captain to ensure safe operation of the aircraft with someone with 0 experience.
Re: Sim Eval 2018
If you want to set yourself up for the best chance at success, you should choose the most suitable type. For a 250 Hr pilot, that is likely not the CRJ.Lightchop wrote: ↑Sun Sep 09, 2018 11:53 am If you're like any of the other low time college hires I've flown with, I'm not worried.
