YYZ SLOTS.....Again

Post by JohnnyHotRocks »

Just read on the OpsGroup daily email that YYZ will be requiring GA slots again starting next month. Anyone have any additional info?
What a pain in the ass

I thought they got the message the last time they pulled this stunt. I haven't received anything official yet, but it must be coming very soon. All I can hope is that they handle it differently this time around because it turned my stints at work into a living hell.

I quit. When's Canada Jetlines getting started? Will they pay more than 500 to fly left on the 320? Time to say peace out to Pearson.

As far as I know, w haven’t heard about any new slot requirements. It was originally planned for October/November, but shortly after the last round, there was a notice saying that they accomplished everything they needed to and that’s further restrictions would not be required. Unless something new has come up? Fingers crossed, those slots were a nightmare!!

I believe CDM has been in use by companies like fltplan.com for while to forsee issues with EDCT times etc and get flight plans into the cue early to try and help flight plan filers avoid delay. If I am filing with fltplan.com, whenever possible, I plan/file 24hrs in advance and let them file it early if necessary. They usually send it exactly 2hrs before scheduled departures, but I have seen as much as 6-7hrs before departure from TEB, KAGS, KORD. Sometimes works, sometimes not....I guess its a "we'll see".

From FSB Ops Group...

The airport authority has provided more details on the changes to slot requirements planned for Nov. Slots are currently required for all flights between 0030-0630 local time. But with the planned introduction of an Airport Collaborative Decision Making (A-CDM), from Nov 17 onwards, slots will be required for GA/BA flights H24.

Ouch, they didn't even list time slots after nov. 17th, would that be all day JHR?

I hope it is along the lines of what Vegas has now - more of a planning tool than a strict slot system. According to people I’ve talked to at Nav Canada most capacity restrictions at YYZ are due to lack of gate availability, not arrival/departure rates. Since we don’t occupy gates we are not in the way nearly as much as the GTAA would try and have everyone believe.

Unless it's anything Citation minus the 10, or a Caravan (same approach speeds lol).

Seems like pretty standard slot procedures. All of Europe operates like that.

Agreed, pretty standard..except for the reservation system. I can arrange slots in Zurich or Glasgow weeks in advance. But for Pearson, I have to wait until 72 hrs prior? So the aircraft owner gets a disadvantage for being organized and planning trips further ahead? I see what Pearson is doing. They don’t want their tenants to be adversely affected and that they get the slots they need...but it’s the only airport I’ve been to that has such a restriction.

The big question is how hard will it be to get a slot, or get a reissued slot once your pax shows up late?
