$55 charge, for processing medical?!
Hi All,
just received an invoice in the mail for $55 from Transport. Apparently this the cost of processing my medical onto my license.
Does everyone receive this bill? This was my second CAT 1 medical... I swear I don't remember getting a bill in the mail after my first one. Is the first complimentary?
This one really blows my mind lol....
ps, I'm assuming most 703-4-5 operators cover the cost of medical plus the processing fee? Or am I way out to lunch.
Thanks pals.

Haha welcome to the Canadian aviation industry.
Re: $55 charge, for processing medical?!
This is unfortunately a standard charge and has been for quite sometime. Some operators cover it, I think most don't. TC WILL send it to a collection agency if it's not paid.

It's a new thing they started in the 1990s. It pays for the AIP updates they stopped mailing out.
Re: $55 charge, for processing medical?!
ignore it, they will take it from your tax return. I already give the buggers a 5000$ interest free loan"tax refund" every year F@*& Em

Re: $55 charge, for processing medical?!
What is a AIP update? And if they stopped them, what is the fee for? I have actually been wondering about this fee myself. I go get a medical and pay the doctor. He stamps my license and I am legal. I require nothing from transport. Why would I pay them 55 dollars?

Because you live in a socialist country and that is part of being a Canadian. Why would I pay them 55 dollars?

Touché, I’ll let my questions stand. I don’t expect a satisfactory answer because I honestly don’t think this fee is for anything. Perhaps it once was but now? Anyone?

Your question remains valid.
No AIP anymore.
No AIP updates anymore.
Welcome to Canada. I guarantee that you will pay.

Liberalism itself as a religion where its tenets cannot be proven, but provides a sense of moral rectitude at no real cost.
Re: $55 charge, for processing medical?!
AIP - you used to get a nice little binder in the mail with about 5 years worth of updates along with it everytime there was a revision. Best part is sometimes you replaced the same page 5 times.
This evolved into the AIM in printed form which everytime it was revised you just got a whole new manual in the mail.
Now you just bend over and pay $55 to click on a link

Ok, Those links work if I have paid 55 bucks or not. Also, why would I pay transport for something navcanada provides? Try again folks.
55 dollars, they call it a processing fee for the medical, so what exactly gets processed?

Re: $55 charge, for processing medical?!
The general concensus seems to agree with this quote, lol.
We pay the doc handsomely for 15 mins of his time, a stamp and I'm assuming a bit of work. But a clerk at transport charges me $55 to " process" my medical.
Just assuming the clerk is well compensated at $25/hr for basic admin work, and based upon the value of her time, she must of spent over two hours inputting my medical!!!
Must be logging my DNA or something, or trying to estimate the number of sexual partners I've had based upon my urine sample.....
Re: $55 charge, for processing medical?!
Yes, even the Doc, now has most of the preliminary work done by one of the assistants ( well my exp. anyway) Not that I will complain, I have had good fortune to have Doctors that only charged the "arm" and not the "leg" also.
The fee for TC, to just receive a sticker a month or so later. not so much. a $20 fee would cover the sticker, postage and the small amount of time to mark our files or whatever gets done.

What sticker are you referring to? And mark your file for what?Aussiecat wrote: ↑Thu Oct 25, 2018 3:40 pm Yes, even the Doc, now has most of the preliminary work done by one of the assistants ( well my exp. anyway) Not that I will complain, I have had good fortune to have Doctors that only charged the "arm" and not the "leg" also.

Re: $55 charge, for processing medical?!
I had my medical renewed about four months ago and never got a sticker.
Re: $55 charge, for processing medical?!
I always get a new sticker, looks exactly like the little photo medical printed in your license book, just with updated medical exam and expiry dates. Comes in same envelope as the bill........
As for the file , I know not what they do if anything, that was just my own imagined reason for the cost

Re: $55 charge, for processing medical?!
I think someone else made mention of a sticker if you requested it. I did not get one nor do I want one . I also don’t think that I require transport to input, update, fill in, rotate, check oil or change the air filter in my “file” each time I renew a medical. Keep trying folks. I believe most will or already are where I am, and realize this is a aviation tax without any representation. This has been fun, we can do it next with the Navcanada 66 dollar if yo own and airplane fee is anyone is interested.
