Can we know who's in the race?

The only year I flew that much was on the DHC-7 at City Express... 1200 hours a year and believe me if they could made us fly more we would have been close to 1500 hours.

We used to get called daily by screw sked to see how many hours on that day we could give them.

This game wasn't as much fun as I thought it would be. :(

I was doing over 1000hrs a year for a while, near the CARs limits. Does that count as a victory or just sad?

In that case I think the winners are 1900 drivers of a certain East coast operator that get a free 2 week vacation every December when they hit their 1200...

It took me 7 years to break 1000 hours... and most of it was very enjoyable.

Now that I’m flying 700 hours a year on autopilot in the flight levels it’s god awful boring. :smt015

700/year?!?

Good god man! That’s a lot of work!

If anyone is willing to bring my log book up to date... I will donate all hours past the 10K mark to them!

Well... it is and it isn’t. 15 days off a month and I don’t fly nights or change time zones and I haven’t slept anywhere other than my own bed for over a month.

I’m 40 years old and not even halfway to 10,000 yet and I doubt I’ll break it in my lifetime, as I don’t think I’ll be doing this job for the next 25 years.

I was under 3 years from starting my PPL to hitting 1000. I also hit 4000 hrs before I turned 24. Is there a prize for that?

Where's that and why do you want to leave? Sounds like a great job!

It is a great job... I’m looking forward to seeing how this myID thing works in the next few years, too... but who can plan 25 years into the future in this industry? I’m old enough to have seen the cream of the seniority lists at national airlines get their marching orders and that wasn’t even 20 years ago.

CPL, ME-IFR, FIR-Class 4, completed in 18 months. TT-275
275 to 1000, in 14 months with instructing. [TT-1000 July 2007]
1000 hrs to 10000 in 11 years, with 5 years 703/704, and 6 years 705 [TT-10000 Aug 2018].
Did a few 1000 years, now doing 800-850/year (I like OT). Average for us is 650-700.

Now I feel old (not even 40 yet), teaching the next generation.

Took me 4 years from start of Basic Flying Training to 1,000 hrs. I have no ambition nor any hope of reaching 10,000 hrs. I value my experience in terms of what I accomplished in aviation rather than a number in a book, and the fact that each hour I fly is unique, handflown and mentally (and quite often physically) challenging.

Me too.

I did not maintain a pilot log book for about 15 years, as I was not seeking any ratings or higher license, I flew because I enjoyed it. But, work called, and wanted records of flying, so I had to go back through journey logs of some of the planes I'd flown, and recreate a pilot log, to bring my experience up to date. I missed a thousand hours or so for which I could not access journey logs, but I had more than enough for the required records. Now I do keep an accurate pilot log, as insurance companies tend to ask when I'm going to fly someone else's plane.

So I'm good for the thousand hour milestone. I may have passed the ten thousand hour mark, but I don't quite think so, and don't have that much of my mid life flying recorded to know. And, it doesn't matter to anyone.....
