lol. ya, first they should figure out how to make their planes flyable with 2 pilots.

Everyone thinks self driving drone taxis are going to be filling the skies in the next couple of years.

Sadly, we just aren't there yet.

Or when they need to go pee
or when they have a knife and fork in their hands
or when they become incapacitated
or when they are screwing up
or when there are multiple MELs and are expected to fly through the night with no AP AT for 11 hours
or in an emergency, who is going to run the checklist, who will fly

Pure rubbish to think that single pilot airliners will happen in my lifetime. Uber taxis can't even figure out land automation without weather dynamics and more complicated systems that planes have.

They would have a button in the ground control trailer labeled... "Wake Pilot" and it would send an electrical shock through the driver to snap him/her out of their peaceful slumber.

Can I log them as PIC under supervision?

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

Just offer to pay the single pilot 1.5x their current salary, and watch how many pilots suddenly want it.
Oh wait, pilots ALWAYS stand up for the "greater good" of the industry and their fellow pilots. :D

Wouldn't an FO be cheaper than 1.5x captain salary and a ground based FO, even split among several flights?

Dang. You're right. It might be a wash at 1.5
But 1.2 or 1.3 and a dispatcher/monitor salary it might be workable. It's really about pilot incapacitation...otherwise 5g and cpdlc....can fly the plane.

I guess my point is once the economics are workable.....

I agree.
Next there will be autoland !
Whoever heard of such a thing....a plane landing itself.
Maybe in 2077

What's next....watches like inspector gadget?
Or large video telephones in the kitchen at home where you can ACTUALLY see a person's face as you talk to them. Way too futuristic for me!
