Post by petite »

Allo

I'm applying for a weather obs job and am cracking open the Air Command Weather manual. Any other suggestions for additional texts to check out?

Thanks

Evidently so. http://www.msc-smc.ec.gc.ca/msb/manuals_e.cfm?
I checked out the Environment Canada site and they had plenty of manuals available to download but the Observers one wasn't available online.

Jesus..... That's crazy, you need to read a bloody book to be "accurate" with poking your head out the window and saying "yup it's cloudy..."

How much does this gig pay? And where do you apply?

weather observing has rules, rules and more rules! About 300 pages of them. (The manual is written by a government department, you know!)

Aviation Weather was the text book that I used a long time ago. It was published by Jeppesen I believe.

The Air Command Weather Manual is a really good book. Between the two you should be covered.

The MANOBS would be the obvious one.

I knew that was on the net somewhere! It's the June 1996 revision though. The June 2005 is nowhere to be found (by me, anyway). Lots still the same, but some changes.
