be sure to lower full flap prior to impact...and be ready for the huge change in control forces due to the rapid loss of airspeed when you flare with the full flaps and no thrust!
Practice full flap dead stick landings to an actual landing at your local airstrip!
If you don't understand the importance of this sort of training, then you have no business flying a single engine aircraft with passengers!
I very much agree!

Not that I'm disagreeing, but what does this have to do with the TSB report?

It states that the pilot initiated a go-around and that the engine was developing significant power at the time of impact.

A go around one second earlier and we probably wouldn't have heard anything about this. Makes you wonder how many people almost die on a daily basis in operations like that.

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

A go around 1 or 2 seconds later probably would havr had more than just minor injuries...

This is a case where a nice 3 to 1 descent to the runway using the GPS would have been very helpful in terms of positioning. Something that really has to be pre-planned at least a little but and it looks like he was trying to beat in last minute lowering weather visually. But one has to recognize the whiteout hazard of frozen, snow-covered lake and probably mostly white all around with the clouds and snow. At minimum, the radalt would be useful to use as a reference, if a working one was available.
