Seeking details about FEAST rounds (after online assessment test form home)

Post by utkarsh132 »

HI

I recently was informed that I have passed initial assessment and may be called for second round. She told me that they use testing platform from EUROControl called FEAST. Can anyone help me how should I prepare for it and enlighten me on the complete process?
Is there anyone who also got such kind of information? If yes, it will be good to connect here.

Anyone who takes the FEAST is told not to disclose details about the assessment as prior knowledge can have an affect on scores. Someone performing better than they otherwise would have and succeeding reduces their chance of success in training/the job which isn't in anyone's best interest.

The best way to prepare is to get a good nights sleep, have a good breakfast, and go in with a clear mind. Good luck!

I agree with you. But I am not asking about the questions to be asked. In my google research, I found a lot of details about old platform called WSIM but not much details about EUROFEAST. So that is the reason I initiated this thread.
Just looking to get details about this whole process.

You likely won't find much information on here from people as there is an NDA when you go through the process and most people do respect that. What is probably safe to say is that everything is computer based and you can do all of the tasks with no prior training or aviation knowledge. Parts that are more "complex" have practice sessions to make sure you understand the exercise and then a scored portion. My best advice is to just read the instructions for each section carefully and go in well rested. It really isn't that exhausting in my opinion as you do get breaks, but when you are testing you do tend to need to be very focused for hour long chunks of time.

People tend to say "you either have it or you don't" which I only partially agree with. For most things in life if you practice you can get better at it but I think that's the whole point of keeping things under wraps a bit. They ideally want to find people who have traits that would allow "faster and/or more successful" training. Meaning I honestly think a fair number of people get eliminated at every step that could do the job given enough time, but they are a business and can't spend the amount of time or resources needed to train people who can't pick up the skills needed quickly. In their ideal world they are trying to identify people who have traits conducive to the work and their training program to increase their overall success rates of training. The whole process does feel a bit arbitrary at times but there is just no way they could start training with 50 people and weed people out so they try their best to do that through the testing and interview process which takes comparatively less resources and time.

For example they currently have about a 30-40% pass rate for IFR training but from their perspective would want that to be 100%. They are paying the trainees and put in a lot of resources to train them so they want everyone to pass training and would pass everyone if they meet the mark. Meaning they don't only pass 40% of people by choice but that 60% of people either drop out of training or don't pass a written or practical exam.

Other countries that use longer training programs or "prerequisite" coursework seems to have higher pass rates, but that may just be skewed because if your pass rate is 80% that's great but that's 80% of people who already passed a one year aviation course and who knows how many people dropped out of that course. NAV CANADA does all of the training in about a year and there are no prerequisites so that likely accounts for their pass rates.

This guy/gal is correct. Do some digging. There is substantial information on the old process AND the new process for MULTIPLE FIRs on this forum...You clearly haven't done your research.

thank you so much for ur valuable information. I completely understand NDA and also respect that. Ur advises are definitely valuable to me. Thank you so much for ur time here. I was not exactly looking for type of questions or anything. Wat I was looking is like the process. Just for an example, a person can b naturally good in process A, Process B, process C and so on. All i was trying to find is which process to be prepared mentally with. But as u mentioned that they will let u know about that. So I will wait for that and try to dig more online. Thank you once again

Right so as far as the process goes you would likely be hard pressed to find specific tasks that you would encounter of either FEAST or at the Bootcamp because of the NDA.

For FEAST you can expect about 5 hours of computer based testing with a variety of tasks and breaks between. Some portions are timed but never for the instruction portion so you can take your time to read through those and do sample problems to make sure you understand the task fully before being scored.

For the Bootcamp it is a series of interviews and activities that they use to get a better feel for you as a person and your personality.

For both of these you do not need any prior knowledge, specific training, or practice, and they would probably prefer that you don't practice as a person who has "it" is someone they would identify as being more likely to pass the actual training. I would assume that given enough time and practice many people could become better at the FEAST tasks, but that may not mesh well with the speed and intensity of the actual training course so those people would be more likely to fall behind during training and either drop out or be "asked" to leave. Like any job interview it is probably a good idea to look into the company and job you are interviewing for a bit and have done some "self reflection" prior to going.

The numbers I have heard tossed around are 100 are invited to FEAST, 30 to the 2 day boot camp and 10ish will get a training offer (IFR).

A quick comment on how this selection process works. You may make it to an eligible for offer stage and get to sit there for 18 months awaiting an offer, but anyone who applies and tests after you goes onto the same list. You don't necessarily move up the list as people are offered courses, in fact you may well be pushed down the list by subsequent applicants that score better than you. With this in mind, though it is nice to help people out on this forum, the people you help with anything other than generalities about the process may well end up passing you on that list. Everyone should go in oblivious to the process specifics. You will be given everything you need to know at the appropriate time. The NDA tries to keep it an even playing field.

The initial steps from testing to receiving an offer are the easy part. Once you start training it's like a 2 year job interview.

that is a wonderful piece of information you gave to me and makes sense too. Now I have better understanding of the ins and outs of this process. I am just hoping to get invite for FEAST as early as possible. Fingers crossed.

- How long after you completed the online assessment did you hear that you passed?

If you are invited it will likely be after the application deadline according to the region you are in and the anticipated test dates found here: https://takecharge.navcanada.ca/apply/

You likely won't hear anything else from them before then.

I am assuming your workday account says something "positive" if there are specifics there for your "status: " and "tasks: " you could share that may help others understand what to expect following the online wonderlic test.

it shows assessment with no pending tasks. I saw somewhere on indeed(NAV ATC job posting) that they will begin testing by march 2020. Not sure how true is that information. I am just hoping to hear from them.

The NAV CANADA link I sent has most FIR testing in February, Edmonton looks like it might be on a slightly different schedule maybe around March. You could probably find some people in your FIR that have posted on here for something like FEAST dates and more or less assume it's six months after that. In any event I'm pretty sure the "assessment" status means you passed and they will look at your application for the next round whenever that is. As long as you are in the top 100ish you should get a FEAST invite, but don't expect that very far in advance, probably only 2-4 weeks before the actual test.

yes.. I checked that link that you sent. Already explored NAV canada site to the fullest..

That was another reason to create this thread to find people of same FIR who applied for the next batch.

Ya I found that too that they give 2-3 weeks notice only if they invite you to FEAST..

hope for the best. But thank you so much. You are a great help and motivation

I applied for ATC -FSS posting. I already appeared in wonderlic test and my status changed to assessment. However today, another application (JR-1459 FSS YEG) is also there in my workday candidate profile for which status is also assessment. I never applied for another FSS role. I just did it initially for ATC-FSS combined.
can any one explain what is this. It appears now as follows in workday:

JR-1459 FSS YEG
Applied Less Than One Day Ago | Status: Assessment

ATS NTL Air Traffic Controller - Flight Service Specialist
Applied 30+ Days Ago | Status: Assessment
