Post by runawayprop »

Would anyone happen to have the specs of a 182 with floats installed?

eg speed, weights. etc.

Thanks in advance

Well I have no personal experience with the 182 floatplane I do know the 182 gained a lot of weight over the years. It is a heavier airframe that the 180 and may not carry as much of a load. The 182 has a lighter engine mount that lead to cracks when used on floats (rough water). I see that some float kits for the 182 have beefed up the engine mount and airframe.

The 180 with a factory float kit has a beefed up engine mount, some strengthen fuselage gussets, and windshield bracing. Optional was the factory corrosion treatment that is a big help in salt water.

However the 182 has a larger more comfortable cabin and may be a bit faster due to the factory speed attention (gap seals, fairings, etc.). I’m not sure but the 182 may have larger fuel tanks also.

Here's a roundabout way of getting 'em. Make some far-out claim that the float installation on the 182 ups the top speed by 20kt and the payload by 500 lbs. That way, someone is sure to come on and tell you you're full of shit. You then ask him if he has any pics.

Barring that, I think Aerocet makes floats for the 182. Google that and see what you come up with.

No specs here but I'm sure they could help you out with anything you wanted to know.
