Meanwhile... in the US pilots are still getting paid....

Post by DanWEC »

Here's UPS's contract extension.....in USD obviously.

Also, Delta pilots are getting up to 59k in bonuses this year via spontaneous profit sharing. That's money they could have simply kept.
All this amidst the 1500hr/ATPL rules and more restrictive duty regs than we have, that ATAC would claim would decimate our economy rendering us all homeless and toothless within weeks.

Meanwhile, Air Canada has profits in the neighbourhood of 3 BILLION. Up 10% even over last year, contending with the MAX grounding, and a pilot shortage. The shareholders are getting paid out, yet things like flat pay and Jazz's laughable 10 year contract are what we get. Did I mention pilot shortage?

Feeling played yet?

It looks like the right move is to get paid in AC stock.

Indeed.
Calin stated in the last report that over the last 9 years shares have given just over a 3500% return.
I'm kicking myself for not buying earlier but not sure how much higher it can go at this point considering North American economic projections.

Anyhow, I'm really hoping this is still enough leverage for the first couple of years to be deleted from the payscale.

Deleted, not just flat pay removed.

I'd love to see 1-4 just go. Gone.. poof. Year 5 becomes the new year 1.

When you hear management starting to talk about how it needs to go (which I've heard) hopefully that means things might be changing.

I wouldn't be surprised if MS is advocating for it to be removed behind closed doors as it would solve his training, WB FO and CA upgrade problems.

Not true. It is 16% of their salary.

He said "up to."

Meaning some of the highest earners will see around that mark.

If you are a year 12 777 FO at Delta or United you are making around $220k USD a year with no OT.

That's $35,000 USD in profit share at Delta at 16%. On top of that, another $35,000 in your pension, fully funded by the company.

Top scale WB CA's at Delta are pulling well into the mid/upper $300k USD/yr mark. Many will see over $50,000 in profit share.

You're right, from what I've just looked up with Delta it's contractual.
I recently read an article about a US major that was voluntarily distributing profit sharing, could have sworn it was Delta but will have to dig it up.

That would be the idea. And would ironically just be winding things back to where they used to be before AC added those years to the bottom of the scale, much like Jazz did about 8 years ago. Unbelievable that even recovering from wage suppression would be considered a victory.
Also, I've heard this rumour around... wonder if it actually has some substance.

Cut the bottom 8 years off the pay scales and add them to the top. Then everybody goes up 8 years, everybody gets a pay raise and everybody is happy.

I hope Cargojet, Morningstar, ACPA and WJ ALPA are noticing this. Actually ALPA in general since UPS isn't with them.

Nope, there is no pilot in the US earning enough money to make me envy him/her. I’ll stay here in Canada with my pay. Thanks though.

Yeah I'd completely disagree with you on that but to each their own.

Right? In a heartbeat...

Lots of great cities and corners to live in. Nice people, great service, lower cost of living, lower taxes, higher wage, reasonable property prices...

Retire to a nice spot in the mountains, maybe a winter place in the Keys or Carolinas even.

$1000/mo for medical insurance is nothing, particularly since the care you get is actually available and better when you need it. I'd opt out of our dysfunctional universal health care here if I could, in fact thousands of people would, rather than lining up to die when something happens. That isn't a statement against the professionals providing the care, but rather the bureaucrats pissing it away.
