I'm starting to wonder if this virus is unstoppable and therefore, just let it do what it will inevitably do. The way it is going now, it is spreading anyways and we are slowly destroying the world's economy yet it is not being stopped. Now we are hearing a year and a half for a vaccine and 70% of the world infected this year, of which the vast majority survive, most with mild symptoms.

Not saying this for sure, only as a discussion point for now.

I kind of tend to agree. Let it run it's course and just keep commerce moving.

But in order to do something like that, a place like the USA would need to open thousands of FREE clinics because you know the majority of people who are not insured or under insured will not go to see a doctor when it can cost up to a few thousand just for a check up and blood test.

Well actually unless they had oral sex with a carrier of the virus, not washing their hands (although totally gross) would make them less likely to spread it because they didn't touch the sink.

The (almost) complete lack of action is very concerning. If this gets loose in a country it will rapidly overwhelm the medical system.

This virus is spreading by air travel - logical countermeasure is to stop flights. There are still flights from China arriving around the World.

It seems governments are more concerned with the Economy than protecting their citizens.

When talking of protecting citizens, it could be argued that protecting economies is also a government mandate. Given how cavalier the Liberal government has been towards the economic livelihoods of thousands of Canadians impacted by illegal rail blockages they don't seem too concerned about the economy.

I agree that flights from China should stop temporarily. Most have, and the ones remaining are being heavily screened. But I don't think there is anywhere near the will to lock the whole world down for air travel. And even if there were, it would take absolute 100% compliance for what, months? before you could even begin to measure the effectivity of such a measure. Coronavirus would have to reach Black Death levels for that to be implemented and it simply isn't manifesting remotely statistically as such. And if it did, you wouldn't need government orders, no one would want to travel at all.

Will it spread more with air travel than without? Of course. Will people die? Of course, unfortunately. But thinking that you can control the movements of nearly 8 billion people just isn't realistic. Slowing and containing it while simultaneously finding a vaccine seems like the best course and funnily enough, is what is happening.

I'm also not sure of the value in obsessively following sites like zerohedge or doctors on YouTube. The few sensible precautions to try and prevent infection are already well-known, and most of these sites are simply disaster porn.

Sort of. It’s when the government tells you “not to worry and that they are prepared”. That’s when you should worry and be prepared.

Rather than the “WHO proving itself totally useless” it seems to be taking a reasoned, rational approach to this. What would you have them do? Shut down global travel and commerce?

The common cold is a Corona virus .
How many colds have you had ?
They do not shut borders for the normal flu that kills 500k a year globally .I cannot see any reason to close borders with this as very few people are dying from it .
More people dying of boredom than covid .
