Who's gotten a lay off?
Hi all,
As we all know COVID-19 has been difficult on the airline industry to say the least and who knows how much worse it might get.
I fly for a small corporate flight department where none of us are worried about lay off notices. (So far as we see it)
I am curious if anyone in the corporate flying biz or anyone flying for the majors have actually gotten a lay off notice yet?
Hopefully the aviation industry will bounce back quickly from this!
Regards,
TPC

I only have personal knowledge for Kenmore Air Service in Seattle. They start lay-offs Monday both in flight and maintenance. I have it from a well-placed source that at Harbor Air loads are down about 40%. Safe to assume many lay-offs are imminent across the industry not to mention support services.

My roster has been changed to all standbys until the end of the month.
Was supposed to be a line check flight and re-current groundschool.
We've been offered unpaid leave and job sharing (50%) on a voluntary basis. I expect that to change.

Always fly a stable approach - it's the only stability you'll find in this business

With an announcement of aircraft grounding and subsequent staff layoffs coming early next week.
Re: Who's gotten a lay off?
Bold statement TPC. That’s exactly what the Suncor Flight Department pilots were saying right up until the day they got their lay off notices.TeePeeCreeper wrote: ↑Sat Mar 14, 2020 9:26 pm

Nobody is immune in this global downturn.
Here’s hoping for reduced blocks over lay off notices...
Re: Who's gotten a lay off?
Loads are nasty all over YUL. Everyone is suffering. Companies won't burn through cash just to keep unusable employees around when the border closes.
Expect 2-3 months of layoffs for 75% of airline employees in the coming weeks. Hope you have your emergency savings account ready...

I wouldn't worry, DerateNO said no one has gotten a lay off notice.
It is going to get ugly. First rodeo for more than a few.
Hopefully everyone is prepared for it.

Welcome to the new combination of y2k, 911, SARS and the 2008 market crash all rolled into one. This is gonna hurt!
Re: Who's gotten a lay off?
Sorry have you heard otherwise?
The question was if anyone has gotten notice and as of right now from everything I've heard no one has.
Unless you know otherwise?

Ha, I remember Y2K!, yeah because the "computer" in your '99 Toyota knew what year it was and wasn't going to start on new years day. On another note I haven't heard much about global warming lately.JohnnyHotRocks wrote: ↑Sun Mar 15, 2020 7:28 pm Welcome to the new combination of y2k, 911, SARS and the 2008 market crash all rolled into one. Re: Who's gotten a lay off?
Just listened to the Flexjet CEO message to employees in the US.
It seems that they are new extremely busy and expect to be for a few weeks with everyone trying to get to where they want to hunker down. He said after that when the reality of stock market sets in and general economic slowdown he expects to slow down as well.

Re: Who's gotten a lay off?
It’s not a contest guys. All companies are going to lay off. AC just announced they are cancelling 50% of their flights. Going to be a tough few months for a lot of us.

Re: Who's gotten a lay off?
Actually, this award has to go to Air Canada. If one wants to get technical, folks aren't actually hired yet, but the course for next week has been cancelled. So there's a group of boys and girls that got the offer from Air Canada, quit jobs, some may have rooted up a family and moved, only to find out now the job has vanished.
for all intents purposes, this is the first layoffs in Canada, even if it's technically not a layoff because start date wasn't scheduled for a couple more days.

Re: Who's gotten a lay off?
Most of the new crop at Air Canada were probably in elementary school when the BOTL guys were given extended vacations in the early 2000s.
For corporations, the first juicy thing to axe to free up capital or cash flow is a flight department—especially with fractionals and charters and e-conferences.
In a recession, people aren’t buying things so less need for cargo.
Even a cushy government job is dependent on tax revenues. They can’t just keep printing money forever.
Nobody is safe.
