What to rent for Private flying
Im just curious what people think, I did all my CPL and PPL on a buck72 but now just want to fly around for fun. I can get a 152 for 30$ cheaper an hour than a 172 but Im not sure if its worth it. Im thnking of only brinign one person with me at a time so the no back seats is not a problem.
What do you think(for peopl that have flown the 152 or have not all opinions welcomed)

Do you like driving in a Neon or an SUV???
If you don't mind the neon you won't mind the 152....
If you save 30/hr that means after 3 hours you fly for 4 in the 152 vs the 3 in the 172???
BUT, since I've i'm a driver and a pilot, I also know that if it's a female you'll be flying with you're better off in the 172, because of the extra comfort..... If it's a male friend, well, guys aren't that big on creature comforts.... imho....
And lol at Haza.... If it's not out of the way and the penninsular is close to you and the price is the same yeah, the tomahawk vs the 152....
But, if you don't have one close by, and you want to do the 152 vs 172.. 152 if you're going w/ a non-whining pax and if you're going with a pax that'll b*tch go with the 172... I don't think it's worth it to save 30/hr if you end up going to jail because you pushed them out of the a/c...

Does it have to be a GA aircraft. Advanced ultralights are great fun for bombing around and having some serious fun. Aircraft such as the range of Tecnams, Sportstar etc are faster than the C150 / C172 range and run on the smell of fuel with their 80 or 100 hp Rotax engines. Hire and fly facilities are widely available and licencing requirements for a pilot of your calibre should not pose any hurdles.Highflyinpilot wrote:Im just curious what people think, I did all my CPL and PPL on a buck72 but now just want to fly around for fun. I second that motion. Why not get checked out at your local club on something that hasn't been used by zillions of students doing "bounce-and-goes".
If your flying club has a Supercub, Citabria or something else with the "little wheel on the back end where it's supposed to be"... have fun. If this is not to your liking, then I think if another airplane is available (like a Katana, Warrior etc... ) it might be worth your while to rent it instead. This would be especially true if you rent from a busy club and the 152's/172's are at a premium on a sunny saturday afternoon.
Variety is the spice of life.... and I for one like it spicy.

A C152 is still my favorite single trainer!!!!
Sure it's small, but who cares. If your only going to take one person with you, use the savings for some fun Xcntry's.
Make sure it's not a C150, as they are gutless wonders.
The C152 all the way.
Cheers.

I like the 182, but then again it's a tad more on the expensive side than a 172 and hard to find a decent one.

I like the Pitts S2B, it will really clinb at an impressive angle and rate of climb.
It's even more powerful than either the C172 or the C152.

The hardest thing about flying is knowing when to say no
After over a half a century of flying no one ever died because of my decision not to fly.

Got 4 hours in an S2A, best four hours I ever paid for. It's a little hard to land though.
Flown 150, 172, Tomahawk, Citabria and Katana. I can't speak for the 152 but have to recommend the Citabria, a little rare, and the Katana as a close second.
