Float operators not immune either. Atleo in tofino shut down (temp) and wilderness seaplanes in port hardy is damn near. Layoffs for both obviously
Re: Companies Laying off.
I see that now but what are the pilots going to do? Fly positioning and test flights with no FAs? They aren’t going to sit at home and collect pay forever.Oxi wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 11:30 pmBecause its not the pilotsZaibatsu wrote: ↑Thu Mar 19, 2020 10:13 pm Air Canada

Doesn’t say pilots but how could it not with those numbers.
Re: Companies Laying off.
Do you have any idea how many flight attendants A/C has? There will be plenty of F/A’s left to do the flying. No need to fly around empty. Think before you post.
Re: Companies Laying off.
No, I have no idea.
But you don’t need to know with words like this:
That represents about half of the 10,000 crew members currently employed at Air Canada and Air Canada Rouge.
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/ ... -1.5504051all 1,549 of its members who work for the airline's Rouge subsidiary
Re: Companies Laying off.
So if you knew there would be approx 5000 F/A’s left why would you post this?

Re: Companies Laying off.
Well with an 80% schedule cut, despite all the cost and complexity of the training/retraining/equipment move costs for your most valuable and expensive employee group, at some point you reach that number, where it does in fact save money to do some layoffs. I have no idea what it is and won't speculate. But I would be very impressed, and surprised if there aren't, at a minimum reduced blocks at AC.
Look, it's f***in Patrick Swayze and Reveen!
Re: Companies Laying off.
Air Canada's war chest is to save Air Canada .. not the pilots. Layoffs will come .. inevitable.

Do you have a source?Daniel Cooper wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 2:04 pm Air Transat has laid off all it's flight attendants but not the pilots (so far).
Sky just released out of 284 pilots they only will keep 127. Ouch.....
Re: Companies Laying off.
A summary from the other posts and other sources as an overview

As an AvCanada discussion grows longer:
-the probability of 'entitlement' being mentioned, approaches 1
-one will be accused of using bad airmanship

From a private flyer, to all you in the industry affected, I sincerely hope this shutdown is short and sharp, and people quickly return to travelling again as they isolate this virus and find solutions.
There are a lot of very smart people working 24/7 on solutions on the treatment side and vaccine side as well.
I do believe we will get this under control, from my study of past outbreaks.

Where did you hear Perimeter was doing layoffs? Couple guys there I've talked to haven't heard anything about it.
Re: Companies Laying off.

Probably safer to get Covid-19 than to get on an aging Metroliner...

This one: All Transat pilots will be layoff from April 19th onward.

Me, got a call this morning.
They're starting with all the new hire in training (me), probably going to the junior pilots soon
Re: Companies Laying off.
Sounds like more of a hiring freeze than layoffs. Probably nitpicking things a little bit but there's a bit of a difference.Turboprops wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 7:22 pmMe, got a call this morning.

Wouldn't hiring freeze mean they stop hiring "new" pilots?bbingham wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 7:27 pmSounds like more of a hiring freeze than layoffs. Probably nitpicking things a little bit but there's a bit of a difference.Turboprops wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 7:22 pmMe, got a call this morning.

or i guess you can call this a hiring freeze plus firing pilots in training, i don't know if that counts as lay off but me and a few others are out of jobs now
Re: Companies Laying off.
I wouldn't worry about companies laying off. This virus will pretty much be the end of aviation as we know it. This virus is expanding exponentially and will kill off any remaining airlines. It's just a matter of time. Anyone who thinks this matter will go away in three to four months is out of touch with reality.
...Seems they are going to remove the axe and the control column from the cockpits for security reasons.

Re: Companies Laying off.
The current rate of doubling is ~ 4 days. Assuming 100% transmission (unlikely), the virus would infect nearly the entire Canadian population in 45-60 days, and the American population a little bit longer. There's still a lot we don't know about this virus, but your useless fear mongering isn't helping.Redwine wrote: ↑Fri Mar 20, 2020 9:23 pm I wouldn't worry about companies laying off.
