In ‘stunning’ reversal, Pickering is asking for airport to be expedited

If they built a high-speed monorail link from airside at YYZ to airside at YHM, you could think of it as a YYZ ramp expansion. However long it took it would still be quicker than getting to most of the gates at Heathrow Terminal 2.
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.

I have an idea....
Expropriate housing/buildings near YYZ and build more runways....kinda the way Atlanta is.
expensive....not as much as a new airport.

I'll go one better, expropriate the whole GTA and move it north of Sudbury and give the most productive farm land in the world back to the farmers.I have an idea....

They need more gates and taxiways, not runways

Pickering not needed. YYZ already has planned new taxiways and 05R / 23 L at the north end.
What is needed is true high speed rail from union to yyz and onward to Guelph /Kitchener / London.
There are plans for that but Ford shelved it.
Perhaps a branch to the east too.

The UPX isn’t high speed rail?

Better allocation of runways at CYYZ would be a good start or an explanation of the logic being applied. I regularly taxi north to 05/23 runway from Terminal 1 while passing a carrier taxiing south from the Terminal 3 for the 06/24 runways and the reverse on landing.

Easier for departure to have aircraft split up/crossed over on the ground rather than have to do it in the air. Yes it can be a PITA but for the overall capacity of the airport, it works.
For arrivals the same is true. Generally you'll land on the runway closest to your arrival fix. There is some juggling to balance and some accommodation of requests, but for overall capacity, some get less than optimum runway assignments.
What helps departure/arrival out makes for a messy ground operation. We don't just taxy you all over just for fun you know.

Just remember we burn a lot more fuel when the engines are running so the less flying or taxiing the better please.
