Where should you keep the maintenance logbooks
Watch this video from 53:25 - 55:10 for some good advice. It is American so if anyone has a Canadian angle to add, that would be welcome....

Well one difference is that the Minister can demand the original logbooks.
DId you hear the one about the jurisprudence fetishist? He got off on a technicality.
Re: Where should you keep the maintenance logbooks
Never keep the tech logs in the airplane, lots of customers keep there logs with us, at home works as well if you are good at keeping them up to date.
I have seen logbooks that require hours of time because they were not kept up to date or cause an airplane to devalue.

Journey log stays on aircraft.
Rest of records are kept in a safe place. As per CARS.

Not necessarily true.
Journey Log only needed on board if you are planning to shut down anywhere other than departure. So in theory, circuits or flights to the practice area do not require the Journey Log.
CARs 605.95 - https://lois-laws.justice.gc.ca/eng/reg ... l#s-605.95
As for tech logs, if my memory serves right, it used to be that you could not carry it on board the aircraft but that changed a few years ago. Don't remember the CARs reference though. I personally wouldn't carry it on board unless absolutely necessary, such as a post-purchase ferry.(2) A person may conduct a take-off in an aircraft without carrying the journey log on board where
(a) it is not planned that the aircraft will land and shut down at any location other than the point of departure; or

Leave the Tech logs with your AMO or AME if it's a private AC, my experience has been they are much safer with them. The Journey I always keep in the plane.
