Unstable Approaches in New Guinea
At the old company, saw a few like that. At the new company, guys got demoted for doing a tenth of that. Video at the bottom of the link.......

Actually, I found that a lot of the times, there was a big initial correction to get lined up but one didn't properly anticipate the start the second turn for final alignment in time and the aircraft inertia took it though the centerline and then the second turn back toward the runway at really low altitude was what caused the worst of the problems. As can be seen in the above video.
I think the damage shown at the end of the video below is from the first unstable approach video.

Re: Unstable Approaches in New Guinea
Wamena is actually in West Papua ( Indonesia). Not New Guinea. Interesting place. A book called Lost in Shangria la describes an old DC-3 accident there.
I have a video from a few years back of the same company and type doing a similar approach going the opposite way. Hit so hard they tore the mains off and went skidding down the runway, past us on the ramp, with a load of fuel barrels. No one got hurt. I can’t load it, but I think the video is out there on social media somewhere. Unfortunately not that uncommon of an occurrence in that neck of the woods.

Actually, Wamena is in New Guinea (an island - whereas Papua New Guinea is a country). It is in the Indonesian province of Papua, not West Papua.

Re: Unstable Approaches in New Guinea
Thanks for the clarification. I forgot that part of the West 1/2 of the island is called simply Papua, where as the peninsula and smaller islands just off the shore are West Papua. Was mostly just reliving the experience of having the 737 going skidding by. Had some great experiences flying there.
