Pilot Training Record Request to TC

Post by BCnomad »

I am trying to retrieve a PTR for helicopter flying I did back in 2012.
I sent an email asking TC for a copy of my PTR which I assumed they have on record either scanned into their system or in a box in the basement.
The response I got was: Here are your records from 2005. Five pages of random log page scans. Nothing on these pages had anything to do with any helicopter time or training.
I responded indicating that these do not help and I was told by email that this is what TC has on record. OK.. But don't you think that someone in TC would recognise the difference between planes and helicopter as written in a log book???
So then not feeling confident, I asked for my complete record of my own "pilot flying" file.
The response I received was this:

"Your will need to contact Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) department https://atip-aiprp.apps.gc.ca/atip/welcome.do in order to access your documents on file."

Any help on this run around would be appreciated
Cheers

Well, if you didn't finish your training, the school need to keep your PTR for 2 years and then they can destroy it.

It's all on your personal logbook if you want any proof.

https://tc.canada.ca/en/aviation/civil- ... e-services

You can access some of your personal file online. It has dates and scores of all tests written as well as dates of PPC and license rides medical dates etc.

It will not have any PTR info however.

I used the service before. My flight school refused to share a copy of the detailed Flight Test Report.

Anyhow, applying is very straightforward. Just fill the multi-page online form by clicking next at the bottom of the page you linked to. You obviously have to address the request to TC and if I recall correctly, they ask you to be as specific as possible in terms of what documents you need. Plus you'll have to attach a proof if ID.

You can choose that scanned copies of the documents you need be sent to your e-mail. The only drawback is that the processing time is very lengthy (up to a month in normal "pre-covid" days).

Cheers.

I'm in the same boat; it's been a few weeks since I paid the $5 for the access to information to get my PTR for some previous CPL hours I had about 15 years ago.
