How much do people rent Mooneys for?

Flight Club will be listing a Mooney in the Muskoka area and would like to price it competitively against flight schools!

How much do you rent Mooneys for?

I have never heard of anywhere In Canada renting a complex single engine retractable like a Mooney. As you will be the first, you can name your own price.

I am agog that in 2021 an insurance company will provide cover for other than named and approved pilots in such an airplane. Power to you for arranging that!

I think the average price is about $75/hour.

A lot of planes out there renting from $70-110/hr dry. I can't see you getting more than that. If I was renting to go with some friends for the weekend and could get an Archer for $80/hr or Mooney for $120-150/hr I'm going to go for the Archer.

I doubt you'll find people willing to pay extra just because it's a Mooney.

Namao Flying Club out of the Edmonton region used to rent their Mooney M20 out a few years back IIRC. Any Edmontonians in the know care to comment?

If not, maybe try giving them a call and see if you can talk to someone who used to work there “back in the day”...

When I did my PPL there, (2011-2012ish) I believe it rented solo for around $165/hr wet. Mind you Namao did and I believe still does have some of the lower rental rates across the board compared to some of the other schools out there.

I am checked out in a Mooney M20J in Seattle(has very nice avionics) which rents for $234/hour wet. That is US dollars. They do have some sort of a program that allows it to be reduced to $213 but I don't really know the details of it. They used to have two Mooney's but now have only one.

The Edmonton Flying club used to rent a M20J. It was awhile ago though. They were operating out of YXD at the time. I can't remember the hourly cost. I do remember it was restricted to rental to people with a CPL or higher for insurance reasons. Really nice flying plane.

Perhaps more wishful thinking than anything.... but at the same time it is going to depend a lot on which model of Mooney we are looking at. A 60’s vintage machine is going to cost less than a G1000 turbocharged fastest civilian piston single! If you ask how much it costs to rent a Ford, it will depend on whether you’re talking a Fiesta or a GT40!
