How do you get a job... seriously
I have been reading comments, getting advice (not to buy a PPC), but things are getting tough guys. I need to feed my family and it seems that I might have to make a deal with the devil and buy the PPC. I have not been able to get a job. They ALL want a PPC -- You tell me how to get a job without it.
Getting hungry and desperate.

peter: I can honestly say that the industry is better now than it has been in the last 5 years. If you're unable to secure a job in todays market it doesn't bode well for you in the future. As has already been mentioned buying a PPC isn't going to fix your problems. You must realize that a PPC is going to cost you $5000 as a very minimum figure. So once you buy your Navajo PPC from regency you basically have only two options.
Work for regency. As an FO you will work for FREE. You can expect to put your time in FOR FREE for the next year and a half or two before you're upgraded from FREE work to poorly paid work.
Get lucky and land a job at NavAir. This isn't very likley anymore because NavAir took a major it recently and have lost most of their work. So with NavAir having a whack of guys on layoff they'll go back first. Let's say you have pictures of wyatt whitcomb naked in bed with a goat and you can blackmail him into giving you a job. You'll start off making somewhere in the neighbourhood of $800/month. I'm sure your family will love the luxury lifestyle you're giving them on that kind of salary. Perhaps this is the first time you've had things spelt out for you so clearly.
Go up north, work the ramp make decent money. Get onto some twin or turbine equipment and earn a living.

Discouraging the face of Aviation in Canada isn't it, but at least the industry seems to be coming around. I don't know of many other professions where you pay out so much to get so little.....its' good most of us do this for the love of flying.
Peter, I don't know if other avenues might be more financially appealing for an interm of a few years, I know of a few people working ATC or FSS paying off bills, supporting family, and building up time on their free time.
This is just one idea but there are more.
Good luck to you.

Thanks for the support... Just so frustrating. Willing to go anywhere and do anything to get time. Been in the industry 5 years. Getting close to hanging it up if I cant get work soon. I have been up north, done the ramp and passed twice by PPC ers. Something is wrong!

If you can buy a ppc, you can obviously feed yourself and your family, so don't think you're getting any sympathy here my friend. Either suck it up, or get out. It might sound harsh, but i'm not going to blow sunshine up your ass. Unfortunately, if you don't have the goods to tell the operator of an airline that makes you buy your ppc (either outright with cash or thru slave labour) to go F#$K him or herself, you are only hurting yourself, and the next fella in line behind you. You are a commercial pilot, not a private pilot, which means the employer should train and pay you, and in return you should not f#$k them over by going to the competition once the ppc is all signed off.
This "i will do anything to fly" for the love of flying is getting to be insanity. How about doing something you love AND getting renumerated for it!!
Best of luck, it is a tough go, but don't sell yourself short!

to me buying a ppc for five thousand dollars is equivalent to buying your instructor rating. usually you buy your instructor rating at the school you are going to work at. in both cases it is possible that you will not be guaranteed a job. they both pay shit. i wouldn't look down on pilots who decide to go either of these routes. working for long hours and shit pay isn't an easy road to travel unless you have something else that drives you. its a free market economy and unfortunately we can't all get paid a decent wage when we start off because there are too many of us and not enough jobs.

Jobs
.....peter.....I would imagine your PPC will be put on credit, and yes another debt.
I would suggest another career path at this time. The reason being is it will take you 5-10 years to make approx.$60,000/annum which is much needed to survive, let alone having a family. If you live in Ontario for example you get screwed with taxes and need to make bucks to survive.
To keep it short, how about becoming a Police Officer or something for example? It isn't easy either,BUT,you get paid for your efforts.....start around $35,000/annum and pay raises rapidly after that.Idiots are on the increase in society so there is an on going demand for Officers.
