Aspen EFD1000 and Dual flight training

Post by CRAFT »

Currently training in a plane with an Aspen EFD1000 PRO (PFD only)

For secondary instruments we have the traditional airspeed indicator, attitude indicator, altimeter and a turn and slip indicator.

For Flight training, the CARS state that;

(1) An aircraft that is used for flight training shall:
(a) meet the aircraft equipment requirements of Subpart 605, in respect of the conditions and rules under which it is to be operated: day or night, VFR or IFR, and VMC or IMC; (amended 1999/03/01)
(b) in the case of an aeroplane, be equipped with a turn and slip indicator or a turn coordinator; and (amended 1999/03/01)

Does anyone how if the Aspen rate of turn/ slip skid can be considered a certified replacement for electric turn and bank indicator or does it need to remain in the plane?

If so, if you have any CARS I could reference that would be appreciated.

Been searching for a couple of days and not having much luck.

Thanks

This exemption was issued, but it expired 10 years ago.

So many flight training units use only glass panel displays, I can't see any enforcement action going on.
