Retirement Dreams
Once you are ready to retire, what if anything, are your dreams in the aviation world? In my perfect world dreams, I want a Kodiak on Aerocet amphibs, and a 330LT, airstrip on my property, and a hangar for them both. Then my GF to tell the medical system to shove it, and we go have fun together.

Re: Retirement Dreams
At this rate I'll be one of the ones flying till 67, and then going back to 703 aviation to die in my work boots, but I like your optimism.

Re: Retirement Dreams
That sounds depressing. I look forward to retirement, and letting the youngsters do the daily grind. If my plan works out, 6 more years, and retire at 55.

On the other hand if you're 49 and your on track to retiring and owning a multi million dollar amphib in 6 years, well, good on ya.

Re: Retirement Dreams
Must say you have done well for yourself, good thing. My friends and acquaintances, many of which had the top end jobs, and who are either retired or will be soon, are not able to live that lifestyle.Bede wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 4:00 amLife has a funny way of making sure your plans don't work out....AngelsSang wrote: ↑Tue Jan 12, 2021 12:23 amThat sounds depressing. Barring the covid thing, I putz around with 702 and 703 stuff on and off, less for money, just to get out of the house. That could be a thing of the past though because of our new world order.

Re: Retirement Dreams
I've been living my aviation retirement dream for the last 30 years. So, barring one unpleasant event during that time, more of the same for a while longer, with gradually reducing responsibility as I age, would be very nice!

Re: Retirement Dreams
I'll take a nice amphib, maybe a 206, and would love a nice cross country cruiser, preferably a duke but maybe a baron. Working as an instructor now means this is a pipe dream for a longggg time away
Re: Retirement Dreams
Turning 60 this year and hope to continue my seasonal Otter flying as long as I can. I consider
myself retired when I gave up framing houses at age 48 to fly. Works for me. Keep it simple.

Re: Retirement Dreams
This subject came up one day a couple of months ago, while a group of pilots were sitting around having a few beer. Some said upon retirement they never want to fly again, others want to fly for fun, and what they hope to buy for aircraft. It made me wonder what others dream of when they retire. In 6 years, as it is a long way off yet, I can't say what will happen. Just what I dream about today when the time comes. Strongly considering buying a plane now, just a toy to yank and bank in.

Retired at 56, have my house on an island in Northern Saskatchewan, and a 185 tied to my dock. Couldn’t ask for anything more.

Re: Retirement Dreams
Retire at 45, and GTFO of aviation. I’m done. Would rather do something else. I’d leave now, but I can’t retire and the lifestyle and pay is unlikely to be matched by anything else out there. I still love flying don’t get me wrong, it’s just I have other aspirations now. I’d try and get my own plane, probably do some contract work in the field here and there but I’d work when and where I want.
Re: Retirement Dreams
Mine are backwards.
Spent last 29 years fire fighting, retiring next year with a solid pension. Gonna instruct and fly other peoples aircraft for fun in my "retirement."

Re: Retirement Dreams
I dream that I will have enough retirement savings not to be a burden to anyone.
I hope that I will be able to afford travel at least across the US. I would also like to visit Africa and Australia, but I am not sure yet. Since the situation in the world is so unstable, I do not have any long-term plans.
I just talk regularly to goodlifehomeloans.com, and they explain to me more about how I can save more for retirement and get the best deals in the market. I also plan to get a reverse mortgage to monetize my house because my kids don’t need it.
