Just a little curious as to what info everybody wants to share about them. Are they a promising company or?
I would really love as much info as possible.
And for the record this is my first post, and I have been reading this site for a long time, I have to say, the stuff I learn on this site everyday is amazing .. thanks for all the great info you all.
I never worked there but they have quite a fleet, from 206 to J31. The problem is to be able to afford Fort Mc Murray and to put up with the winter overthere.
Black I can attest first hand as to the size of their fleet. When i was a rampie i worked for there ground handeling dept Borealis Air Services. The pilots and staff for Air Mik were while I was up there were a pretty good bunch. Often the pilots would come back from a late flight medevac or other and would wait for the fueller to finish his job before helpin him put the plane to bed. All in all they are a good comp to work with/for but as it was said it is a tad expencive up there and there is no real housing by the airport closest is on avg about 15-20 min away longer in the winter as per the roads.
Yes,
I used drive back and forth to Suncor everday, so I hear yeah.
Well from that all I can assume is good things.
My main concern: is there is a healthy chance of moving up to get on F/o sometime .. regardless of the time just a healthy chance?? I dont know how else to put it~
Either wa,yI would love a chance to work with a company, with a fleet like that. Cant be anything but a learning experience the way I see it.
ANd I think some qoute goes "The best way to find work is to have work". I heard that somewhere along the lines. So either way if the opportunity shall arise, I 'll do my best to get it. Thanks for the imput though.
There are plenty of guys who worked their way up to Captain from the ramp at Mikisew, the former chief pilot being one of them. Is it the best job in the country? I'm pretty sure the guys there would tell you that no, it isn't. Is it a good, solid job with plenty of opportunities to build time on various aircraft, and eventually get multi-turbine PIC over 12,500? Pretty sure they'd all say yes. Time on the ramp when I was there was around 2 years, but things have certainly picked up in the industry since then. Not sure how that's changed the ramp at Mikisew...maybe some of the folks there now can tell you. Great group of people when I was there...hope you're all doing well wherever you've gotten to!
Best of luck...
Swerved.

In a world full of people, only some want to fly. Isn't that crazy?
From what I hear, morale is quite low. There have been 17 pilots leave in the last 13 months, and they just instituted training bonds and lowered most of the co-pilot wages from getting paid per mile to a low salary compared to the high cost of living.
Former... your information is not entirely correct. True, a bunch of pilots have left, but onto bigger and better things. Air Canada, North Cariboo, Airsprint, Airco, Syncrude. The face of the company is changing, but nobody I know has left without acknowledging that Mikisew gave them a chance and helped put them where they are today. And with regards to training, they are PROMISSARY NOTES, not bonds. No money exchanges hands unless you bail. And those notes are only on initial training. All the company wants to do is secure crew in the face of a booming industry. Mikisew resisted even this change for a long time... much longer than most, but had to do something after several pilots left with their PPCs/training with very short (or no) notice.
Blackhole, if you're from out East and looking for a break into the industry, Mikisew is a great place to start. Just go in with the understanding that you may wait a while for flight line, but if you do your job well and are patient, good things could happen for you there.
PM me if you have any questions, and get info from the horse's mouth...

You think three cities is bad? Try two with what was a minimum 12 leg day. MTPP-MTPX 348 going 168 on the way back. Bunch of other boring things about that trip that I'm not going to post. I haven't flown in over a year and can still remember almost everything about that route.
