Why are Pilot not front of the line with other "essential workers" for Covid Shots.

I've been back and forth to the states/other places probably 20 times in the last year but you call AHS here in Alberta asking for a shot they say I'm not essential as a Pilot. I usually leave them with "ok but I'm essential when I return to Canada from all over the world and don't need to isolate, I can literally walk over to the pub sit down slam a few pints then hit the Grocery store before I head home and take my kids to school the very next day"

Just get your Pfizer shot in the US. Most states have no issues giving you the jab. I got one there and will be fully vaccinated before most Canadians get their first shot.

You might be surprised what’s involved in earning two bars; especially in some organizations.

Given that they are crossing borders and their potential to bring infections back, the average thinking non-pilot would most likely want pilots inoculated.

Travel is super dangerous let’s make people go into hotels and quarantine.

We have a bunch of people exempt from this quarantine but we are going to do literally nothing to try and test them or

Yep, I went to the front of the line. The US decided I’m an essential worker and asked if I would take the jab when I was down there. The healthcare worker thanked me for my service which I was surprised, grateful and thanked her for her hard work and service as well.
Aircrew are performing an essential service. Logistics are complex and essential, take any component away and everything stops.

It's free. You have to get one in a state that allows non-residents to get vaccinated, however.

You get a legal-sized piece of paper from the Ontario government at least.

Last I was at the FBO in Eagle, and they asked if I was fully vaxed yet, I said 'No, I'm Canadian'. Their jaws hit the floor when they found out we've been criss-crossing Canada and the U.S and we're still not on the vax radar yet.

Good news, nearly all my passengers and practically everyone I meet on my travels is though....I guess that's good...

And still, though their numbers are improving, the overall US death rate from COVID 19 is still over double what it is in Canada. Maybe that’s why they are so concerned? They can’t afford to get COVID-19 both figuratively and literally.

Given the current situation in Iqaluit, I'm amazed that the GN as well as GNWT aren't demanding that all aircrews be vaccinated.

This all comes down to who whines the loudest. Teachers fought for front of the line now most of them are working from home in Ontario. What a waste that was. The only people I know who are vaccinated are people who are either retired or able to work from home.

If flight attendants and pilots put up a stink about getting to the front of the line, the general public would dismiss this idea and remind us that flights should actually be grounded, we should all stay at home until they declare the end to this and they may then give us permission to crawl out of our cave and fly again. No way non essential flight crew should be getting vaccinated yet in the eyes of the general population.
