Okay, sure, there was more expendable income at the end of 2020, but that is not an indicator of a healthy economy.
We have to remember that the debt to GDP ratio has skyrocketed. In addition, when you have people spending less money, companies are making less money (yes, there are Amazonian exceptions).

Canada's Debt to GDP ratio. Note the scale starting at 80%, not 0.

Oh wow. so obviously we should stay in lock down forever. This is the same as wearing masks led to zero flu cases in 2020, so obviously we should mask forever. Of we mask an lock down forever the flu will be eradicated and the economy will boom!
Re: Lockdowns actually helped the economy
I think the tenor of the article was that the pandemic was obviously bad for the economy, but slightly worse in areas where there was no lockdown.

I wondered how long it would take for masks to get a mention. 3rd reply.

You'd have to be double-digit IQ to believe that. You're ignoring the TRILLIONS of dollars being printed out of thin air. Ask 1920's Germany how that worked out for them. *tHanK mE lATer herher*The effectiveness of lockdowns in reducing infections suggests that lockdowns may pave the way to a faster economic recovery if they succeed in containing the epidemic and thus limit the extent of voluntary social distancing. Therefore, the short-term economic costs of lockdowns could be compensated by stronger medium-term growth, possibly leading to positive overall effects on the economy.

Inflation? What inflation?
I thought a 2x4 was always 10 bucks!
RIP to the generation that could never afford a home and never will. New build prices going up tens of thousands for the lumber alone, never mind the price of property that had been hot for a decade.

Re: Lockdowns actually helped the economy
If that "fact" is indeed true, and people naturally tend towards social distance and isolation in a pandemic anyways, then why did we need lockdowns? Why relieve people of their freedom to make their own decisions? Why is the right to mobility being severely limited? Why are fully vaccinated people still not allowed to leave their homes? Why are cops allowed to come to come to your house and drag you out for having a holiday meal with family, or pull you over and question you on your way home from work? And more importantly, why are so many people not only ok with all this, but will actually argue in favour of allowing themselves to be made wards of the state? The fact is, even without lockdowns, plenty of people will avoid restaurants and other crowded spaces during a pandemic simply out of fear of catching the virus.

If you’re going to cherry pick one example from a century ago, I’ll cherry pick another. The 1987 stock market crash was 4 times as bad as 1929. Why weren’t the 90s the Greatest Depression?ReserveTank wrote: ↑Sun May 23, 2021 10:19 amA real paralysis-by-analysis article printed by the usual media parasites.photofly wrote: ↑Sat May 22, 2021 12:40 pm Here you are.
